j.crew new arrivals picks.

Hello everyone!

New spring arrivals rolled in at J.Crew this week, both online and in stores. They are offering free shipping, no minimum, with code FREESHIP, which is always nice. Here are some of my favorites:

What I'd wear in real life:

Chambray Dress -- I have last year's version, the Workwear Dress, and it's an easy staple to grab and accessorize. I like the wash on this one.

Nolita Jacket in White -- I love my denim jacket, and it would be nice to have a white version for spring/summer.

Liberty Floral in Tresco Print -- I love this crazy print. It just makes me smile. I can't pull off that kind of print in a shirt or pants, but love it on the Girls' Liberty Tote Bag, the pre-order Invitation Clutch, and silk scarf (which is priced ridiculously).

Biella Tassel Loafers -- Such classic preppiness with the navy/pink! I know those who have the Biellas love them.

Scalloped Ballet Flats -- Fun and different.

Pixilated Houndstooth Skirt -- I think this is a really fun skirt, in a classic silhouette and nice length. I wish it wasn't a poly/acrylic blend. I will admire it frrom afar.

Schoolboy Blazer in Chambray -- A more refined option to the denim jacket.

If I was going on vacation:

Sun Shirt -- As one who burns no matter what, I'm always having to put on cover-ups. Love the sun shirt, especially one that's flattering and not frumpy.

Rash Guard in stripe and Liberty floral -- Oh look at this Liberty print one, so cute (so insanely expensive!!) Can I ask a dumb question though, for those ocean-faring women out there, how does one wear a rash guard? Over a bikini top? Doesn't that look all bumpy?

Summer Straw Hat in stripe -- Obviously my skin hates sun, so a big hat is always necessary when laying about outside. (Wait, when do I do this?) I have a straw hat from JC from probably seven years ago that is still going strong. It's been packed up, smushed, and doused with margaritas and is still all good. Love this stripe version though.

5" Chino Short in chili red -- Many have clamored for a true classic red short from JC for ages, and finally they've delivered. I also love the soft mint.

If I worked in an office:

Pleated Dress in Super 120s -- I think the Super 120s are very sharp for workwear, and think this dress with the bit of pleating in that soft peach is so pretty. I actually think this could be worn out of the workplace as well. The navy and bright blue are also great in this fabric and silhouette. That pleat might not work on everyone though.

Etta Canvas Stripe Pumps -- So cute for spring and summer.

If money were no object:

Mougin and Piquard™ for J.Crew Minuit watch in navy -- A new partnership for JC, with respected Mougin and Piquard. I would love a navy watch, but I'm set in the watch department. This is very classic though.

Collection Modern Toggle Coat -- Let's pretend the price isn't astronomical, and just look at the preppy, pretty red. I've just done a massive coat clear-out to consignment/ebay, so we will just be window shopping this one.

For my imaginary jetsetter life filled with cocktail hours and tea parties:

Gilded Brocade Top & Cafe Capri in Gilded Brocade -- These are so very pretty. If only I had an event for which to wear them.

Collection Floral Hummingbird Dress -- So lovely for a spring or summer wedding in silk/cotton.

Collection Tuxedo Pencil Skirt -- Perfect in pink, substantial wool-silk twill, and apparently, lined in silk (can it be?).

What are your favorites from this rollout?  I have a Rewards card to use, but I might hold on to it for a while, as the only item I really want/could use are those red shorts. And as it's 18 degrees out right now, I'm not too desperate for them yet. :)

  1. Hah, I totally know what you mean by the "imaginary jet-setter life"! If I had one I'd snap up all the Gilded Brocade pieces; heck, I'd snap them up within an hour of them hitting the website and be one of those people who causes the item to sell out in that hour! Too bad I also happen to not live in New York. Hmm, maybe it's not too late to try to create a jet-setter life for myself . . . lol.

    1. I'm very tempted by that brocade top, but must restrain myself. :) And it's never too late!

  2. So much to like in this rollout! The brocade top & capris and the hummingbird prints are so beautiful.

I tried on the chambray dress and in my opinion it is short. I tried it in a size 10 and I am 5'4". Why do they do this? The wash is just as nice as it looks and the chambray is wonderfully soft. It would be fine over a swimsuit or elsewhere as long as you don't raise your arms up high. If you belt it (and it seems like it wants to be belted), you're talking tunic.

Rash guard shirts... I like them in theory but never found one I liked enough to wear. You definitely need to wear it over a swimsuit! lol Even over a swimsuit, anything white-based is going to look like you are in a wet t-shirt contest once you get in the water.

I can't wait to get those red shorts in the mail! If they are a good red (we'll see!), I don't mind paying full price for them.

    1. The workwear dress from last year was on the short side as well. I hope they didn't make this one even shorter. Honestly, it's just so frustrating.

lol about the rash guard shirts! I mean, I know you don't wear it alone, but it just seems a little bulky or something. Wet t-shirt contest made me laugh.

Please let us know about the red shorts. They are top of my realistic wish list!

  3. I don't have a jetsetter life, but I bought the brocade top. It is ideal with a pencil skirt for a spring event, and looked sharp with my jeans in the fitting room. As for the rest of it...nothing really for me until it gets marked down. The daisy tee is pretty IRL and finally long enough, but the back is super sheer. I'd only get it in navy-which I don't really need.

    1. Ha, no need for the jetsetter life for that gorgeous top really. If I had more dinners out or events, I would snap it right up. I bet it looks amazing with jeans! Oh how I would like to justify it, but I will hold back and live vicariously through you. :)

I agree that everything waits for a markdown or discount for me at this point. Spring is ages away.

I forgot about the daisy tee, which is very cute, but I feel like I have different iterations of it. Bummer that they made it sheer in back. I wondered if the tweed tee was sheer in back as well.

  4. Did J Crew make a typo in the cost of the floral rash guard? why would it be $100 more than the striped one?

  6. Great choices. I am inexorably drawn to the jet setter choices, although I definitely have more of an IRL lifestyle. The scarf price is so high. I saw it in the store and was a little taken back.

    1. I am drawn to the jet setter ones as well, as evidenced by my closet. But if anyone ever asks me to jet off for a weekend in Monaco, I'm set!

  7. I've got my eye on the Liberty rashguard. I wear rashguards, even over a tankini top! (No wet t-shirt contests for me either.) The fabric is so thin & comfortable. No lumps or bumps for me, but I guess that is dependent on your swimsuit. Sporting a rash guard gives more of a sporty look, imo, & I like how the Liberty print adds a touch more femininity (sp? oops) to the rashguard. I have rashguards from Athleta. They are a must have for long days in the sun. My son wears a rashguard, too, made for little boys, of course. :)

    1. I agree, I love that the Liberty print adds the feminine tough to the sporty rashguard. I was looking at some Athleta rashguards -- some cute ones there too. My son has always worn them b/c he inherited my pale skin. :)

  8. This liberty tote bag is so gloomy. It really gives a feel of freshness. And the most significant thing is that it can be matched with any color's dress.
