Hello everyone!
Long time no post it seems. I'm in total crazytown right now, with my DS's 5th birthday tomorow (hooray!! and how is he 5 already?!), our first house showing this weekend, and our bathroom rehab just finishing up. Trying to get to your comments in a timely matter, but apologies if I'm slooooow. Anyway, with the major 40% off online promo going on right now at J.Crew, I wanted to give you all some quick reviews of items you might be considering.
First, is the Collection Ruffle Collar Shirt, which many of us were struck by, compliments of the lovely photo below:
Here's another online photo, where it looks quite creamy, and you can see that it's more see-through than that first picture implies:
IRL, the color falls definitely in the flax/bisque category, a la the cashmere snood and glittens I just reviewed. This is fine with me, but I do feel that if I expected and only wanted ivory, I'd be returning it. It's not the best color for my skintone, but I still love the color, so I'll live. It's a very delicate chiffon silk, so this is not going on the daily wear inventory or I'd tear it up on the first wear. Special occasion or night out sans kids only. I know ruffles were quite overdone a few seasons back, but it's kind of nice to see once in a while, in this soft color, amid all the neon and stark colorblocking. I ordered my usual 4 and that works for me. The sleeves are longish, the shirt itself a touch shorter than I expected. The sheerness will turn a lot of you off, but it does fit the look of the shirt. As you know, I've packed away half my wardrobe, so only had a white cotton tank to put underneath it -- not what I'd likely do. It's very pretty, but not worth full price, but that's mainly b/c I know I'll somehow snag/tear it eventually. See the black version on Gigi here.
The Collection Cashmere Fairisle has been on my radar since it came out, as I really love the color mix. It's very flattering near my face, so I'd been hoping it would make it to sale. I really hemmed and hawed over the size, and ended up with a small. I could have done and XS but I don't hate the size. It feels chunky and cozy and cheery. The cashmere is very thick and very soft. It's a bit of a looser weave, so leave off the pointy jewelry when putting it on. (The inside is very snag-worthy, moreso than the outside.) I love the longer burgundy at the wrist/lower arms.
I've had the Collection Cashmere Shawl Collar Cardigan for a bit, and keep forgetting to post about it. I love this one, and it was a surprise love for me, as it's nothing to exciting, and a bit grandpa, in a good way. I took a size small and that was the right one. I wouldn't have wanted to size down. The buttons are very nice, it has pockets and it's crazy soft and thick. I've worn it about 10 times, and there's a slight amount of pilling I need to take care of under the arms, but not bad at all. It's a great neutral and I've been throwing it on with everything. Oh, also, it has pockets! Awesome.
Finally the Collection Cashmere Pocket Sweater. I didn't get a great pic of this, and it's taken in my bathroom mirror, but at least you can get the gist of it. It runs really big. This is a small. I obviously could have used an XS. I'll probably give washing it a try and see what happens. But I'm actually digging the slouchy oversized-ness of it, to be honest. Not sexy, but sure is cozy, soft and warm. On the second wear, there was light pilling under the arms, but I must say that I was doing a ton of packing and moving and what-not. Color is a dead match for the glittens and purl-stitch snood.
Since we are celebrating my son's birthday tomorow, and have that showing on Saturday, I'm going to have to sign off for the weekend, but will be back shortly!
Have a great weekend everyone!
p.s. Madewell has their Perfect Chambray Ex-Boyfriend Shirt on promo, to which you can apply the 40% off code (LOVE40) and free shipping. I have and love this shirt, and it's perfect for spring in that light color.

dead of lust over the two cashmere pieces. simply stunning! and i love how the fair isle sweater looks paired with that blazer.
ReplyDeleteThanks Laura! The sweater/blazer pairing was sooo pretty. I'll have to try IRL once we're out of the deep freeze.
DeleteThank you heaps for these reviews, especially the fair isle & pocket sweaters! You look smashing in that fair isle if I do say so myself! Happy Birthday to your little man too. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks! :)
DeleteGreat reviews. I'm so happy to see the ruffle blouse in warm bisque. Black is probably best for me. Thanks & I returned the link love. I like the burgundy at the sleeve of the Fair Isle as well. Nice pairing w/the pink blazer. There were not nearly enough cozy cardis this year. Dang cheap retailers!
ReplyDeleteI think the black looked great on you and think it's a better color for you as well. I agree with your review completely. I know, it was annoying that pretty much anything I wanted this year was Collection, so I had to bide my time until big sales.
DeleteI really like the fair isle with the pink blazer, that's gorgeous. Thanks for the reviews.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to your little guy! He's 5! Time is flying by. I hope you enjoy his birthday and that your weekend goes really well.
Thanks Dani! It was a lovely birthday for him, though he was a bit neglected this afternoon while we were cleaning up a storm! Made up for it with delicious cake and pizza though. :)
DeleteHappy Birthday to your son, M!! It just keeps getting easier from here! :) LOVE the fair isle and pocket sweater and the shawl collar cardigan on you! I think I need to wait until next year to buy any more winter stuff (which is a shame b/c it's been so cold here and I really could use a few more pullover sweaters!). Best of luck with your house showing! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! :)
DeleteHi again. thanks for the tip on the j. crew hothouse floral blouse. sold out for now but hope they restock. I love the fair isle sweater, so I will be checking that out on j. crew as well. what are those jeans you have on with it? they look great on you, and I love the wash. where can I find them? and what size do you wear in them? I am 5'4" and about 110 pounds. Love your site by the way...you have great taste! happy birthday to your son. My kids are 3 and almost 1, so 1st birthday party plans are in the works. I, too, love nights out with my husband sans kids! :) gotta have the right outfit!!

Thanks for the birthday wishes for DS! Love that first birthday, have fun with that one! :) The jeans I'm wearing are old Gap Sexy Boyfriend. I think from maybe 3-4 years ago? So I'm not sure they're the same as what's in stock now. I'm wearing a size 4 in those. Hope you can snag the Hothouse top!
DeleteLove all your picks! Happy birthday to your son, and fingers crossed that your house sells well!
ReplyDeleteThanks Rose!
DeleteLove, love the fair isle with that jacket. It's stunning.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip on the Madewell Shirt. I've had my eye on it and that's a great price. Did you get your usual size or size down?
I hope your son has a great birthday!
Thanks Mary! I really loved that combo the best as well. :) I got my usual size for the shirt (small). It lends itself well to a bit of slouchiness. :)
DeleteI love that fair isle sweater too! So beautiful on you! Happy birthday to your son...my youngest just turned 4 and I can't believe how quickly it has all passed by. I've had my eye on the Madewell chambray shirt as well and promised my husband I'd quit doing the purchase/return dance...I almost always take the same size as you so I'd love to know which size you ordered. TIA and have a great weekend!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Lisa! It's amazing how quickly time passes these days.
DeleteI went with my usual size small in the Madewell shirt. I could maybe have done an XS, but I liked the fit of my reg size. A little bit of slouchiness. :) Have a great weekend as welL!
A little late here, but I hope your son had a great birthday! Did you do a theme party?
ReplyDeleteIsn't it amazing how fast they grow?! My daughter will be 4 in two months. How is that possible? I just had my first ultrasound yesterday!
I hope your showing went well also. It seems exciting and stressful. But, I bet you're having fun staging your house!
Thanks for the reviews.
Oh! Also, I wanted to tell you that the Kate Spade outlets have a stacking promo on their jewelry this weekend (maybe always?) 20% off of two items, 30% off of three, 40% off of four. They will ship to you if you call them. I was able to find some hard to locate bangles the other day. I just wanted to tell you in case you were looking for one that seems to be gone or wanted a discount (they had the London Calling bangle for $58, it's still FP online).
Thanks and an eary happy birthday to your daughter! It goes by so, so fast. We weren't able to do a party this year, just kept it to family. We'll do something fun next year though!
DeleteThank so much for the tip about the KP outlets! Aren't their bangles the best?
You are making me want that grandpa cardigan. :)
ReplyDeleteHappy belated to your little guy!
Thanks tiffany rose! Love a good grandpa cardigan, ha! :)
DeleteI love that cashmere fairisle turtleneck soooo much. Wish I would have bought it, I just could never justify the cost! Love it on you though!
