Happy new year's eve everyone!
Before I dig into my 2012 favorites, some sale updates. Boden has taken additional final cuts on fall/winter stuff and there are some crazy deals! Also, J.Crew is offering 30% off sale (both final and promo) with code STYLE2013. I think the Baby Brompton is a cute basic small purse (in black and henna) at a nice price now ($99 before promo), or if you need bigger, the Mini-Brompton is on promo for $158 (so it's not final). I also like their tights, like the Wide-Rib Wool Tights and now is the time to grab them at more normal prices. Get ready for spring with the Collection Linen Slicker (thanks to DaniBP for pointing out its return!). I bought this in the first go-round and can't say enough about it. Love it and wear it constantly.
So we're going to start off my 2012 Favorites with that linen slicker, one of my fave purchases this year. I bought it on the last run at a good sale price, and was amazed at how often I reached for it. I'm still wearing it in winter with layers in the snow b/c it repels water pretty well (not so much in the downpours, but that's fine), is super cute and has a hood. Here is my original review.
Next on the list are the J.Crew Pave Bracelet and Necklace (review). These are classics at J.Crew. The bracelet has come out every year. I was happy to score these finally with discounts and have worn them a ton. They are my go-tos when I want a little sparkle or am wearing something boring. Instantly elevates.
The other workhorse bracelet is the calf hair Wild Side Bangle:
A shout-out to the critter jewelry J.Crew revived this year. I love them all! Giraffes, rams, elephants galore:
From Boden is the Casual Zig-Zag Tunic. Tunics have been my go-to for fall and winter, quite unexpectedly. This tunic is on super sale right now!
Kate Spade has won me over completely with its jewelry line, as I'm a total sucker for every one of their bracelets and idioms. Same with their handbags and wallets. My favorite pieces this year were the All in a Day's Work, Oh La La, This is the Year To and the Glass Half Full bracelets, as well as the Twirl necklace and the Ta Da earrings. My birthday Lacey Wallet has also served me very well. BTW, the 25% off sale is still going on!
In the sweater section, the J.Crew Tippi in Swiss Dot has been in regular rotations, and is just easy to wear. Pops back online once in a while. Anthro's Morning Birds Sweatercoat is another favorite.
Dress category has been slim picking this fall and winter, but summer had some lovelies, in J.Crew's linen Java Tunic Dress, the cotton Villa Dress, and the Lucille Dress in lace and scalloped eyelet.
From Anthro, my favorite dresses were Morning Story and Bike Lane.
No tees made it this year, but I did love J.Crew's versatile Chambray Top and the linen Tessa Top (same shape/style as the Chambray).
Shorts are not my thing, but I did love J.Crew's Scalloped Eyelet Short. Would love these in white and a khaki!
As for pants, I loved the J.Crew factory skimmer "blackwatch" pants and Madewell's Skinny Skinny High Riser Jeans (which go on promo periodically for about $65).
The Ruched Banded Bandeau Tank at J.Crew was a revelation for me this summer. I know it might not work on all body types, but for me it was uber-flattering, while at the same time completely modest and appropriate for preschool swim-time (I like the suits with a slightly padded bustline). The printed versions were just as good, if not better, at camoflage. :)
As for shoes, J.Crew's Valentinas (patent on sale here) and (patent solid and leopard and calf hair) Martinas were my clear winners there, and Madewell's Sidewalk Skimmers. Comfort and style in all three styles, yay. I also finally picked up a pair of Hunter Boots (via a price match at Nordstrom, awesome), and can't believe I lived without them before. They will last me forever. The other boot winner is the Madewell Archive boot. I wore the heck out the saddle color last year, and black this year is the same. They are on sale with an extra 30% off now, so if you can snag your size, this is the time to get them. My sandal winners were the Boden Twist Sandals in calf hair bought on super sale, and wore non-stop. Wish I'd have gotten a back-up pair!
There are a few more, but I'm out of time and space. This thing was long enough! Here's a Polyvore set of all my favorites:
What were your favorites purchases this year? I'd love to hear! It's always so fun to see what everyone ended up loving the most.
Wishing you all a fun, safe New Year's Eve! I'll be cozying up at home with my DH and DS, ordering up some food. Not exciting, but joyous just the same.
