J.Crew has extended their 30% off promo, but added a $100 minimum for free shipping, with code CELEBRATE. I don't think $100 is too hard to reach these days at JC, but that no min sure was great while it lasted. J.Crew factory is offering 40% off with free shipping on $50 with code HOLIDAY.
Some new markdowns noted this morning -- that lovely, heavyweight Collection Cashmere Shawl Cardigan went down (to something still high but more reasonable with discount), the Bow Coat is marked down, as is the Double-cloth lady day coat in pink and yellow (great price on pink!), the Stadium-Cloth Duffel (in pink and blue), Wintress Puffer (in blue) some of the Liberty nightshirts (I love Capel), the short-sleve pj set in chambray, and the Boucle Dress. Many more markdowns, so worth a look-see!
On to the review of the Collection Capri in Photo Floral. I love the photo floral print, but everything was super sky high. I had a chance to try on the popover (with no camera, boo!), and I didn't like the fit of it. It reminded me of a bomber jacket. I get what they were doing, but it didn't flatter me. The material was gorgeous though. So when the pants were marked down and the promo further brought it into an ok price range, I ordered them to try out (before final sale returns). I ordered my usual size 4.
The material, once again, is a gorgeous and weight silk wool. It's very similar to the rope-print skirt if you remember that one. The ivory color is rich and not yellow-y. There is a bit of pleating at the waist, which can poof out a little, so that might not work for some body shapes, accentuating that area. However, you can wear something on top that lays over that, negating the issue, if you'd like. I think these pants are much easier to wear and pull off than the top. I think they're not as dressy as the skirt, but that they can be quite dressed up. The advantage is that they can be dressed down a bit more, worn with a simple black sweater, even a chambray/denim shirt, and some black heels. I love it paired with the red in the pic above as well, but really any solid color, bold or pale, would be pretty. Lovely for a cocktail party, and more comfortable pantyhose/tights. I'm not a pants girl, but these I can get behind. While the photo print thing is a trend, I think that the black/white-ness of these give them a more timeless air. I actually think I'd prefer to wear them next year or the year after, post-trend!
Have a wonderful day!

Those are so gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThanks Alissa!
DeletePretty! I would love to see this photo print in a short-sleeved silk tee. I haven't seen any of the photo print pieces in person. That fabric content/weight sounds lovely.
ReplyDeleteHi cate, wouldn't that be so pretty? The top they made is just so hard to wear, unfortunately.
DeleteThe pants looks adorable on you! I hadn't seen them yet

Thanks Emily!
Deletegreat great pants on you - this is very pretty and a great buy!! i have the rope skirt and it's such a great fabric, so i can only imagine how luxe these must look and feel IRL.
ReplyDeletexox P
Thanks P! I was trying to think of what to compare the fabric to, and saw the rope skirt, and it is very close. Such lovely fabric, well deserving of the Collection name this time.
DeleteThe pants look AMAZING on you. I have not really liked them until seeing them on you - styled to perfection.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I have just eyed them, very unsure, but with the discount and the no-final-sale, I decided I needed to see IRL. So glad I did, much better than expected.
DeleteI just returned the photofloral popover yesterday. I was so disappointed when I tried it on. It's such a lovely print, but I got a hunchback feeling when I tried it on. The pants look great on you, but are not for me. I'm almost six feet tall so that's that!
ReplyDeleteYes, the hunchback thing, this! I totally get what you mean. It just felt oddly dumpy on for such an elegant fabric/print. On Jenna or a model's frame, maybe, but not on me, alas. Maybe you could try the skirt?
DeleteI'm not a fan of pants. However, I love these on you, really I do. I think they look great with the jeweled collar Boden top in your last photos.
ReplyDeleteI really do not ever gravitate towards pants, but in the end, I thought I'd likely wear these particular ones moreso than the skirt option. It looks really lovely with the Boden top, I was really happy with that pairing!
DeleteWhere did you get the black sweater you are wearing in the first photo?
ReplyDeleteHi Anon, that is the Lady Lace Popover sweater from last year in black.
DeleteI love the pants on you! I bought them also not really expecting to like them but when they came I was so surprised! They are gorgeous and can be worn in so many ways. I love them just with a solid cashmere turtleneck ( It really doesn't matter what color because they all look beautiful with the print) high heels & statement earrings. TTS on me as well. I bought the 2.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the review, M! The pants look gorgeous on you! I also prefer them to the top and skirt, even though like you, I am not a pants girl, but I think these really look lovely! :)
ReplyDeleteDarn, darn, darn. These look amazing on you!!! It can't be long till I break down! You have styled them to perfection!!!!! I was like others - I was not absolutely besotted by them until I saw them on you!
ReplyDeleteAny of its relations- love it!
ReplyDeleteYou know they look wonderful on you, I didn't like them at all on the site.
I just purchased these pants too while 30% off and no final sale was going. My intent was just to "try" them. I am in love! It is hard to justify $150 for a pair of pants, but I don't think I can bear to return them :).
ReplyDeleteThey look awesome on you!!
The pants look terrific on you M and I like all the ways you styled them. Agree the black/white makes them more timeless.
ReplyDeleteReally pretty and elegant print- I love the way they look with the soft black sweater. I agree too that they don't seem as trendy. Very nice- I hope you catch them later with a nice deal!
