Hello everyone!
Today is the last day of the J.Crew MUSTHAVE 30% off promo, so I wanted to get up these two reviews in case you're ordering. I'm heading out the door to brave Toys R' Us, ugh. But better now than after Thanksgiving. I like to have all the main things done before the unseasoned shopper madness descends. :)
Wonderland Puffer -- This coat has been around for several seasons I believe, but I've had a black down coat from Eddie Bauer that served me well for many years. Alas, I took it out of storage, and noticed a glaring tear and the collar looked particularly worn. A utilitarian coat, I didn't really care much to replace it, as I prefer to shop the fun brights and prettier coats. I did think about going for a North Face coat, but they are ubiquitous around me, and that just annoys me a bit. So, upon the price drop of the Wonderland Puffer, combined with the the promo, I went for it in the same basic black. As I tried it on, I said "aha, I get the appeal." For a poofy coat, it's actually still flattering and slim fitting. The material is soft and squishy, and I didn't notice feathers popping out (yet). I love the big ol' removeable hood. My other coat didn't have one, so this is a nice additional luxury, as I dislike hats if I can avoid them. I got a size small, and it's the right fit. Felt just fine with a lighter layer and with a bulky sweater and shirt. The gold buttons give it a nice bit of shine. I like that it has both zipper and covered snaps. Definitely a keeper for me!
Macalister Wedge Boots in navy -- Oh, the elusive navy boot or bootie. There was a navy knee-high boot at Nordstrom I checked out in early fall that didn't work out. Then I saw JC made my fave comfy (for a heel) Macalisters in navy, and they promptly went on the wishlist. So happy they went to sale and I could get them on promo. The navy is definitely a clear navy, not to be confused with the near-black navy. They come in whole sizes and advise sizing up if you're a half size. Worked out ok with a sock, but I'm bummed out, as I'd hoped to wear them with tights as well. Why don't they make them in half sizes? I'm on the fence.
Have a wonderful Sunday!
I have that coat from a few years back and it is the warmest coat ever - I have a long North Face too and it's not half as warm as the J.Crew one!

Ooh, good to know, thanks Emily!
DeleteThanks for the reviews! I *think* my husband bought the wedges for me for Christmas. I have the heels and find that they work well for me with and without socks - hoping the wedges fit the same. The puffer is cute, I'm in need of a new one soon, hopefully I can catch this on super sale towards the end of the season.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great gift from your husband! I bet you'll be able to get the coat at a nice price maybe in January?
DeleteI have this puffer from last year and I adore it - its really easy to just throw on for errands but its also very warm. I find I tend to favor it in the winter months :)

I'm glad that it sounds so nice and cozy. I have a long down one, but that's only for snowstorm-type weather. This will be good for running around. Thanks!
DeleteThose shoes are lovely!
ReplyDeleteThanks Laura!
DeleteLove the puffer, although I would like it even more if it were longer (to cover my butt). Also love the Macalsiter wedges but unfortunately they do not fit me well.
ReplyDeleteI can see that being a concern, though I prefer having this one short, as I have a long one that I break out in the super bitter cold.
DeleteThe Booties are gorgeous. Why don't you consider adding an insole (wool or something) for winter? Keeps your feet toasty and will make the shoes half a size smaller so you can wear them with tights :)

An insole is a great idea -- I might give that a whirl!
DeleteI got the McAlisters too. I am 8.5 and I sized up at first but they were too big. I reordered an 8 and they are great. I think they stretch so maybe you can consider sizing down? I love them, they are ones of only few things I kept from recent orders, I will review them sometime this week.
ReplyDeleteI might try re-ordering them in an 8 to see, b/c I do think they will stretch in that suede. Looking forward to your review!
DeleteThanks for these reviews. I have been on the fence about buying a puffer coat as I am always worried about it adding unnecessary bulk. This one looks really trim on the body. I bought the Macalisters in the cognac colour earlier this season - one of my best purchases this year!
ReplyDeleteThanks for review on puffer coat, it has been on my in box but was on the fence regarding size. Now I can put in my order. Looks great on you!
ReplyDeleteI love those shoes and love the color! I would have bought them, but they're out of my size...sad. The jacket looks great. I got the vest version last year in dark gray and wear it all the time. I wish they had more color options (navy would be nice), because I have a similar black short coat.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I'm impressed you made it to Toys R US before Thanksgiving. I think I read that your son is 4. So is mine...I'm curious what you're getting! (not that that has anything to do with clothes!). Also, since you're my new source of inspiration...I'm wondering what fun holiday outfits you have in mind!
ReplyDeleteI like the puffer it is cute and flattering, and that's hard to find in a warm puffy coat. I have a Calvin Klein one that is comfortable and suitable for now. It has straps that snap at each side of the waist, so it creates an hourglass silhouette, I like that. When it's worn though, I think I'm going to get a longer one that covers my bottom. It just gets too cold here to leave my bottom half uncloaked in down.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on the North Face, everywhere! They are warm, and I have a windproof jacket I wear when I run, but I'm not a fan of visible branding and they're absolutely recognizable.
I like the booties. As someone else suggested, I'd try a size down. I'm sure they'll stretch.
Thanks for the reviews!
Love those booties [sigh].
