j.crew review: stadium cloth duffle coat in light nectar.

Hi everyone!

Just under the wire, I wanted to post up a review of a coat before the 30% off promo ends tonight. This is of the Stadium Cloth Duffle Coat in Light Nectar.

I ordered it when it was on sale during the 30% off cardholder promo, but it seems they are now taking the 30% off of the original price. Oh the price games J.Crew.

I never really noticed this coat, to be honest, until it went on sale and I saw it looking cute in a Polyvore set. Knowing how much I love the stadium cloth material for our cold winters, I wanted to check out that pink color IRL. I have a peachy peacoat from several years ago that is too big for me now, and thought perhaps I'd replace it with something longer, warmer and hooded.

Didn't expect to love this one as much as I do!  The color is a great lightish pink. Not too light, not too dark, not too peachy, not too bubble gum. Just right IMO. How do they do that? The hood is a perfect size, and doesn't seem like it'll blow off at the first gust. The buttons are covered up for a clean look. There is some nice detailing -- tabs at the cuffs, little stripy pocket and trim inside the lining.

I went with my normal size 4. If I sized down, the arms would be too tight for sure. The pockets are a little tricky to get into, my only con. But if I'm wearing this one, I've got some warm gloves on, so it's cool.

What do you think of this coat? Did you receive any coats from the recent promo?

p.s. I added a quick snap of me in the Herringbone Excursion Vest in my previous post, in case you missed it. Love it, and sized down to an XS.

  1. Thanks so much for the review! I think I'm going to pull the trigger too. Now I just need to figure out what size. I love this coat with winter whites and beiges.

  4. Yay! Thanks M! Still trying to decide between this color and the navy though... but the IRL pics definitely help! Just don't know whether I really need a pink coat. Well, ok, no one *needs* a pink coat, but you know what I mean. ;)

  5. Thanks for the review. It is a lovely coat. Still debating.... I really shouldn't spend the money right now, but I do need a new coat.

  6. Thanks for the review! I love this coat and have the similar version they had in navy last year and wear it quite often (that was one of the many items I have bought thanks to your reviews!) I would love to bite on this one but unfortunately I just got the pink bow coat and can't really justify getting another coat right now :-( boo!

  8. I just received two in the navy. Interesting, one is from a much more attractive dye lot than the other. Thankfully the good one is the size I chose to keep. I am a 2 in every J Crew thing I own, but I went with a 4 on this one for a few reasons. The 2 fits me like the 4 fits you, M, which is probably how J Crew intended- a feminine duffle. I wanted a more traditional duffle silhouette. Also the placket flipped up in the the 2, flashing the zipper when viewed from the side, which didn't happen with the 4. A note on fit: I am very flat chested which means that while my overall bust measurement is a 2, my back is really a 4. Makes no difference in sweaters, but can become apparent in jackets. Something to consider if you are on the flatter busted side. FWIW, I love this coat in the navy. When I buy an investment piece, I usually try to choose the color that suits the garment best, not just my "favorite" color. It seems to help me like the garment more over the long haul. The pink is sublime, perfect even, but I might tire of it on a duffle coat.

    1. BTW- the color comment was directed to AJC who was on the fence, not to take anything away from your beautiful coat, M!

  9. i got my usual jcrew size 00(which sometimes is too big as well) and this was a tad to snug by the underarms/shoulders and everywhere else it fit fine. (i was only wearing a tshirt underneath)
