Before I get into reviews, I wanted to mention that Boden has offered up a preview of their spring line, with 20% off and free shipping/returns (code PRV3). Go to www.bodenpreview.com and check it out -- sooo many pretties! Would love to hear what you love as well.
Today I have a couple more J.Crew reviews for you. Alas, neither of them worked for me, but perhaps they will for you.
First is the Lady Jacket in Corkscrew Tweed in the vibrant fuschia. I like the color of the tweed. You can see it below next to my dahlia pants from last year (year before?). The gold dome buttons feel nice and from Connecticut's Waterbury Button Company, which I appreciate. Those are the good things. However, the cons are dealbreakers-- the material is fuzzy from the get-go and I imagine will become an absolute pilly/fuzzy/snaggy mess, probably just by hanging in a closet up against other wool jackets. It was soft to the touch, but I could just see how it might look after a number of wears.
Also, I really disliked how the yarn fringe came up around the bottom on the one side and just stopped. You can see it below in second pic. So it really only worked buttoned up for me. Also, it was too short, coming to the top of my jeans, which aren't even very low-rise. This was my normal size 4 and felt like it fit fine in the arms, chest, shoulders, etc. Anyway, as you can probably guess, it's a pass for me.
Next is the Trompe L'oeil Lace Blouse, which I thought looked elegant, even if it's in the same ol' shape they've been doing for a while now. It's a lovely silk georgette and honestly, it really does look like lace. That's cool. It is a simple ivory and black, and wasn't see-through at all. I just didn't love that striped look on me, for whatever reason. It just seemed a little harsh or something. It also just seemed a bit boring, especially for the price. For a smaller price tag, you could get the gorgeous Boden Jewel Neck Top I recently reviewed as a more special piece. I happened to get them both on the same day and it was no contest.
What do you think of these two? I've haven't had much luck this rollout. The one sale item I was soooo excited to get arrived, and it was the wrong item. Of course it's now sold out, boo. Oh well, wasn't meant to be.
How did you do with the 30% off sale this week? Find any good popbacks? Did you try out any of the newly-discounted (to rational prices) Collection items?
Also, Madewell has started their own promo: 25% off sale and free ship on $100+ with YIPPEE. I love the Library Loafers in Calf Hair, the Tree-Twig Cuff, the Art Dot Novelist dress, and Over-the-knee Cableknit 1937 Socks.
Have a wonderful weekend!
The pink jacket looks really cute on you, but I can see why you'd pass on it. The other top seems like an interesting IDEA, but looks a little boring for what should be a fancy top.
ReplyDeleteThanks Heather!
DeleteThat really sucks about the wrong-item package. What terribly customer service! I wonder if you can complain to CS about it and have them reserve the item for you if it should pop up again. The Lady Jacket looks like it fits really well on you, even despite the short length. I'm planning on getting the double-serge wool one and figure I'll just have my top underneath peak out a little at the bottom to cover the missing length.
ReplyDeleteI was really bummed out, but I did contact my VPS and she's been searching like mad and also sent me a little gift card, so while I'm disappointed, I definitely appreciate their response. I just wish this didn't seem to happen to people so often. It's only happened to me a couple times in all my orders, but I know it's not uncommon.
DeleteFor some reason, the double-serge jacket didn't seem as short to me. I do like having the shirt peek out the bottom of jackets.
Thank you for posting the link to the Boden preview. You're so right! So many pretty things to feast the eyes on. My favorites are the Wardour dress and the Weekender dress. I'm definitely ordering both of these along with the Audrey jumper. The neckline is my favorite. :-)
ReplyDeleteLove all three of those Andrea! The neckline is fabulous.
Deletethank you for these reviews - i am so sorry to hear about the wrong item being shipped. that sucks!! :(
ReplyDeletegood to know about the blazer. it was on my covet list. xox P
Thanks P!
DeleteI like a lot of the shoes on the Boden preview and there's a stripy coat and skirt which look really cute too.
ReplyDeleteThe pink jacket is a great colour but it's so sad that J Crew's quality is on the decline.
I agree, really cute shoes! JC does color so well, it's just a bummer that I can't trust their materials any more. Maybe the jacket wouldn't shed/pill, but based on experience, I'm expecting it - sad.
DeleteThanks for the honest jacket review - but that blouse is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThe hothouse print is really lovely IRL, I agree!
DeleteI personally love the Ledbury dress!
ReplyDeleteDo you know how long that Boden promotion is on for?
thx!
Love the Ledbury dress. The Boden promo goes through Nov. 9.
DeleteThat blouse would be splendid without the distracting stripes- love a good trompe l'oeil print!
ReplyDeleteI agree, the stripes just threw me off for some reason, but the print is nicely done.
DeleteI like the Textured Ponte Dress in Pacific, the Argyle Jumper, the Draycott coat and blazer, the Spring Trench and so much more. Unfortunately I've found the sleeves of their long sleeved shirts to be an inch short on me, so that doesn't bode well for their blazers or coats, but I'm sure I can find other things to buy!
ReplyDeleteAll great picks! Boo, that really stinks that the shirts all are too short for you. Have you tried any tall sizes?
DeleteI think the jacket looks great on you - but I had sim fit issues with the lady jacket and had to return that too.
ReplyDeleteFor some reason my lady jacket didn't have the same issues, but it could have been the muted colors or something that worked better with it?
DeleteOh what a bummer about the sale item. Maybe it was never even in stock. I thought the jacket was cute & it still looks cute irl on you. But it seems like the style is missing a collar. Maybe because of all of the embellishments. The collarless look isn't working. Thanks for sharing pics :)
ReplyDeleteI definitely give my VPS credit, as she felt really badly, is still searching for the item, and even sent me a gift card. Ah well, maybe it will turn up. Yeah, the jacket isn't terrible, I just felt like it didn't work, at least on me. That's ok, I'm good on the blazer front, haha.
