j.crew sale reviews: jacquard blouse, silk crepe tee, play heart tee.

Hello everyone!

Today I have a few sale review of items that might pop back during the MUSTSHOP 30% off sale promo, so I wanted to get them up. There are some new sale pieces, like the Invitation Clutch in dot and the Bubble Necklace in pink, green and bright blue (promo too, not final!). At the end of the post, I also offered up some cute picks from the Talbots sale going on -- 20% off full price with free shipping/no min (on FP), and crazy-low clearance items (will ship free if you include a FP item).

I've had my eye on the Collection Jacquard Keyhole Blouse for a while, and it recently finally dropped in price. It looks to be sold out online in the sale color, but I'm sure will pop back now and again. I ordered it in a size 4, as I wasn't sure of sizing. I think the 4 is ok, though a 2 might be a little better. I'm not sure if the 2 would be shorter though. ETA: Ordered the 2 and prefer that size. I didn't notice a major difference in length. Don't mind all the wrinkles, this is straight from the package. The color is darker than online, which is actually good b/c it's not the same shade as my pale skin. I like the little gold button, and the texture makes it a little more interesting. This has a bit of Anthro vibe to it, with the bit of puff in the shoulders (which I know some of you dislike, so noting it here), and the blouse-y sleeves (just the bottom half).

The Collection Silk Crepe Tee is another I have watched to hit sale, in the ivory colorway, as a nicely dressed-up and easy partner to my plethora of skirts. :)  Again, I sized up to a 4, and am glad I did. I think a 2 would have been too tight and short. The weight is really nice, as is the feel. There is a little kehole button in the back, for a little interest.

The Comme des Garçons® Play printed heart tee is of course a bit overpriced, but the sale price plus discount brings it into the realm of reasonable. There was only a medium available, and I'm glad I got that and nothing smaller, as this one just fits, both shoulder and body. It's a bit of a silly tee, but I like the grey/white/black -- it's easy to play with when layering. Plus, let's face it, as a SAHM, I do a lot of tees. :)
The shorts are my $11.99 black and white polka dot score from Talbots.

Speaking of Talbots, I don't know if you've checked out their sale, but there are some darn cute things at crazy prices. True, I've been pretty disappointed since last fall's fun line, but there are still some diamonds in the rough. Sizes are going pretty quickly in sale. Things do pop back. The outlet items are final sale, but with even more rock bottom prices. Also, they are offering 20% off and free shipping on full price. I found a lot to like in new arrivals actually. I added in a pair of navy FP tights to a basket full of sale items and free shipping applied.   From full price I like:

Audrey Cashmere Sweater -- Lots of pretty colors (though I admit it's not J.Crew). Nice for neutrals though. I like the collar and think it could be a nice option if you like the cashmere Tippi from JC.

Argyle Cardi -- Pink and burgundy, one of my fave fall mixes.

Seasonless Wool Sheath -- Great for work, especially if it's conservative.

Christi Haircalf Plaque Pointy-Toe Pump -- Ooh, love these in this beautiful color and easy heel. The price is so reasonable too, even at FP.

Becca Lizard-Embossed Almond-Toe Flat -- So pretty in that red. Also in black and brown.

A lot of cute flats to check out for sure!

Sandi Chunky Heel Boot -- Ooh, that dark wine color.

Pebbled Leather tote -- Love the navy/brown combo

Glen Plaid Equestrian Clutch -- Adorable!

Houndstooth-etched cuff -- So cute and simple.

Cashmere Poncho -- I would wear this pretty much the same way, with skinnies and tall boots. Cozy, comfy.

Glen Plaid Hooded Cape -- I still dig capes, and this is cute in the glen plaid. All you need to do is put on a black turtleneck and some slim black pants or skinny jeans, and done. This would have been awesome with brown leather buttons.

From sale I like:

Ocean-plaid Top -- How much do I love these colors?

Grace Fit Ponte Knit White-Piped Jacket -- Cute tipped jacket in easy ponte fabric.

Voile Crystal Pleat Skirt -- Um, $9.99? White, pink and light blue available.

Floral Eyelet Sheath -- So pretty! Put it away for a surprise next summer. Cotton, fully lined. Hard to beat $30.

Cheetah Clutch -- Fun for an evening out. These clutches are fairly small and thin, fyi.

Laura Ribbon-Lace Spectator -- This is an outlet item, down to $32.

Refined Ponte Knit Sheath -- Classic silhouette, nice stretchy ponte.

Have a wonderful day everyone!

  1. That Play tee is wicked cute, I'm not one for graphic tees usually, but I would wear that.
I recently cleaned house at my local Talbots. While some of their stuff has been disappointing lately, I really like their pencil skirts.
I picked up the Flower-Garden print, Watercolor Floral in the Azurite colorway, Paisley Swirl, Painterly Floral, and Ribbon Tweed in Rose Quartz.
I also was able to snag the Stripe Jersey Knit Full Skirt in the tan-ish colorway, a Rose Quartz Charming Cardi, and four Gold-Button Bateau Tees (Parrot, Pink Hyacinth, Prussian Blue, and White). I paid around $150 for all of it, you just can't beat that. Especially since Talbots quality is pretty good (a lot of poly this time though, ugh). I tried on the Crystal Voile skirt and I didn't find it flattering on my body, it was just too long for my short legs and there were no petites in store. I also really wanted to try the Refined Ponte Sheath in Red Laquer, but there weren't any in my store.
I like that cheetah clutch. They had one in my store, but I left it. I have the Ikat clutch and a lovely black one from Italy that was a gift, so no need for it.
I also wanted to thank you for the tips on the Paper Poplin Shirtdress and Sloan Riding Boots at LEC. I had to size up in the dress, the 4 was snug across my shoulders. It's nice though, and I look forward to playing with it this fall.
You were right about the Sloans. They're nice enough, but they don't have enough structure for me. Plus the leather seems too delicate for a boot, especially a boot in upstate New York.

    1. Thanks, it really is a fun tee.

Ooh, such great deals!! I totally agree with you that there are some nice things to be found, you just have to weed through some of the "mature" items. :)

Yay that the dress worked for you! I think it's great for fall when it's still pretty warm, but you're ready for fall colors.

Too bad about the Sloans, the price was crazy for them, but in the end, if I'm not wearing them, it's not worth any amount.

  2. Has anyone tried on the Talbots Laura ribbon lace spectator? Wondering if it's true to size. What a bargain! Thanks!

    1. I didn't see it in my store to try out, unfortunately. I will say that I've found their shoes to almost always be TTS. (My regular size, not my wacky JC sizing.) You might be able to call and see if they would consider adding in a note to let you return if they don't fit. It's hard to do final sale with shoes.

  3. Thank you that is a good idea! I've been burned far too many times with final sale...

  4. Oh how I love Talbots sales. I got the mitzi pointy flats for $34 in black suede. They will last a lifetime.

I am glad you like the jacquard keyhole top. It was a freakin' disaster on me, but it looks so nice on you! The fabric is really neat.

    1. I agree that their shoes have been really great for me, especially at some of the low sale prices!

I think the blouse is likely hit or miss b/c of the sleeves, texture and even the color.

  5. Thanks for the reviews M! I have also loved the jacquard keyhole blouse but could never find reviews on it. Looks great on you! This is OT, but I received the Banana Republic Abigail Stripe Scarf in the "cocoon" colorway today and I immediately thought of you. It is a beautiful scarf in shades of navy, camel, gray, taupe, and ivory. It drapes well and I'm thrilled with it. I know how much you love these colors so I thought I'd mention it to you if you haven't already seen it in stores. Have a great day and thanks again for the reviews and sale tips!

  6. OK, I need to check out the Talbots sale - feel kind of burned with JC recently because I bought the Sydney sandals on a whim (final sale, of course) and I am not sure I like them ... easier to blame the retailer than me, haha.

    1. Ha, I know that feeling Lisa! :) Hope you can find a fun deal at Talbots.

  7. That Talbots sale is tricky. They are notorious for not shipping all items. And of course the one item that I really wanted is the one that didn't ship. I was able to re-order it and hopefully one of the stores will have it, since it showed as a popback on the website. Hello floral jacket for $22!

    1. Ugh, I know, I did have that happen to me last time and was so bummed out. I've mostly been lucky, and one time went into the store and they were able to locate one at a store for me. But yeah, that's definitely an issue I wish they'd resolve. So glad you were able to get the floral jacket -- especially at that caraazy price!

  8. Did you order the workwear JC dress since the price dropped? If you don't mind me asking, what size did you go with? Thanks

    1. Hi Anon -- Yes, I did! I went with a size 4. I did review it a while ago, but was going to repost a couple shots of it today in case anyone else was considering during the sale. It's above the knee, but not crazily so. I'd feel comfortable in it for preschool dropoff. Definitely enough room in the body, which is pretty straight up and down. HTH! :)

  9. I had heard the Comme tee ran small. Medium was a smart choice (and a lucky one, it looks like).

The jacquard top has a cool texture but I REALLY wish they had made that in a more classic shape. I like unusual, but the two big elements (unusual fabric and unusual shape) mean it is a no go for me in my current budget. ;) Are you going to try the size 2?

    1. I totally lucked out on that tee! I just figured anything designer seems to run small. lol, not exactly a scientific guess.

I get what you mean about the two elements, and it's not going to be everyone's favorite. The color is so neutral, so that helps. I think the navy would have been a pretty one to have. I am going to try out the size 2 and will update. :)
