j.crew reviews: origami dress and jules as tunic.

Hello everyone,

I had to pop into J.Crew today, as it's the last day of the STYLE25 25% off promo, both online and in store. I had several returns to make, and of course checked out the rest of the store. ETA: The promo has been extended just through Monday only online.

Nothing new really caught my eye, but I did see the wool Jules in retro jade marked down to $119.99 and the Origami Sheath Dress in decadent red down to $109.99 (before promo).

I have the black Origami and love it (review hre), so really wanted to see how the red worked with my skin tone. It's definitely not a true red, and more in the modern red/orange realm. Love the shape of this dress and the neckline of course makes it. I thought it would be really pretty during the holidays. On Christmas, I'm always soooo hot, and short sleeves would be kind of awesome. This is a 4. I could possibly do a 2, but the bottom would likely be too va-va-voom.

I also saw the Jules in retro jade hanging in the sale section for $120. I really love this color and wanted to try it on with the jeans and wedges I was wearing, b/c that's how I'd wear it, as a tunic. And I have to tell you that I kind of loved it as a tunic! I do think the pockets would have been better on the side, but it's fine. I know the look isn't for everyone, but I kinda dig it. And bonus if I ever go to Vegas again where I could wear it as a dress (soooo short!). This is a 4, my usual in Jules.

Oh, and have to tell you that I wore my calf hair Martina Wedges all over the place from 8-1 and they felt really great. Still highly recommend them! They're sold out online right now, but perhaps you could try a WWFIFY to get the sale plue promo price.

Have a wonderful day! :)

  1. I have that Origami dress and love it.

The Jules would work well as a tunic with some skinny pants such as the minnies, in my opinion. I just wish they would make it longer and let the taller gals wear it as a dress. :)

    1. Hi Rose! I do love the Origami -- it's so flattering. I agree about the tunic option for the Jules with some skinnies. So annoying that they don't make it longer. My PS did say some clients were letting out the hem a bit, but that's still annoying to have to do.

  2. The colour of that JUles dress is just stunning, I am so tempted to try it but I must be sensible at my age, no more mid thigh show!

    1. It really is a gorgeous color, I love it. It would look beautiful with your coloring too. You might be able to pull off the dress as is, or taking out the hem a bit. Silly though, as I'm sure you can find other lovelies without all the hassle.

  3. I like the Jules-as-tunic look, and wish they'd just sold it as such. That is NO dress (for anybody above what, 5'4"? I think that even shorter JCA's found it to be too short).

    1. They really should. At Boden, it would certainly be termed tunic. Perhaps some leggy supermodels in NYC can pull off walking around in such a mini, but the every day woman just cannot. It's irritating. But I do like it as a tunic!
