j.crew reviews: schoolboy blazer in houndstooth, boucle peplum jacket.

Hello all!

More new rollout reviews today, with a check schoolboy blazer (I think? Anyone?) and the Boucle Peplum Jacket.

First up, is the Schoolboy Blazer with Elbow Patches in Houndstooth. (I thought it was the the Hacking Jacket in Wool Check at first, but t's not.). This jacket is nicely constructed and the check is classic. The fabric felt nice and weighty, and even the inside detailing looked more impressive to me. My usual size 4 felt right. I have the Prince of Wales blazer, so this is a pass for me, but I give it a thumbs up.

Next is the Boucle Peplum Jacket.  The shape is cute, but I wasn't wowed by either the gray or navy colorways. It wasn't love for me, so I put it back. I went with XS in this one and typically wear a size 4 in their blazers. I didn't feel like it was too snug. I liked the double zipper that you could adjust at will.

What do you think of these two? Will they be making your wishlist? Don't forget 30% off sale going on.

  1. i tried these two on IRL on the weekend. the check/prince of wales blazer was really fun - and i found the boucle fit well, but underwhelming in that i didn't think the price justified buying it. i find it looks lovely on you and defines your waist beautifully.

thank you for these reviews, M!

    1. Thanks P! I agree, I wish that peplum would have come in the pretty burgundy color or something that popped a little more. It was so nicely fitted and pretty. The checked blazer was really great as well. :)

  2. What color is the schoolboy check blazer? TIA - it's not in my B&M.
I thought that I was going to love the peplum jacket, but it really was just so,so. Maybe on sale.

    1. Hi Jen, the blazer was made up of neutrals -- camels and blacks. I wish I had gotten a better close-up pic, but my iPhone was not my friend that day. Next time I'm in, I'll take a closeup. I agree about the peplum.

  3. Hi M, The peplum jacket is really cute on but I get ya. The colors are not thrilling.
I have no wishlist right now and I am not shopping the sale. This fall at J Crew is just not very exciting for me I guess!
Thanks for the reviews though, always appreciated! :)

    1. Hooray for not shopping the sale Dani! I agree that this fall has not been too exciting. I've found some basics and pieces that work well with what I have for my fall/winter plan, which is great. I am tempted by the pencil skirts that went on promo today though, in the romance pink and crimson maple!

    1. Ooh, that blazer is very you! :) Agree about the peplum. If I didn't have 100 blazers in similar colors, I'd be interested. :)
