j.crew reviews: colorblock tippi, more stripey tees.

Hello everyone!

Miracle! The laptop is working again! DH fiddled with it, installed a new keyboard, fiddled some more, and...it's working! Awesome. The pics today are still from the iphone (so not as great), but I should be up and running now.

I'd like to share some recent purchases from the last promo, in case you're considering any of them. There is a (supposedly?) cardholder-only promo email that has gone out, for 25% off and free shipping on a purchase. I did get mine, with a one-time use code. If you have a J.Crew card and didn't receive an email, check your spam, or call CS or a VPS to let them know. Reports are that they are honoring it both online/phone/in-store.

On to the first review, the Tippi Cardigan in colorblock, in the fuschia/burgundy colorway. It was already on promo, so it was nice to get the extra discount, especially before final sale. These colors work well with my fall color story, and I love the Tippi. J.Crew does merino well, and it seems I can still count on that quality. I took a small, and it has a little room, but still fits nicely, and will let me layer.

The colors are fabulous, perfect with the Rugby-strip Boatneck in Cabernet(above). It does not, however, match up to the crimson maple color in the No.2 Pencil Skirt , which has warmer undertones, closer to cinnamon.  I had ordered that skirt to mix and match with these items and the knit blazer, but it didn't work out, as it's a different tone. I also tried it on with my Sloane Dress in spiced wine (below), but it was off. Would have been cute though!

Next are some stripe tees. What, I have too many stripes in my closet? Nevaahhhhhh!

The Perfect-fit Stripe Henley with Gold Buttons in navy jade is comfortable and cute. Nothing too earth-shattering, but wanted to give you an idea of where the neckline goes -- nothing too risque. Also, the jade color is definitely more of a minty green than emerald. I tried it on with the turquoise hacking jacket and I liked it together. I always get a medium in their perfect fit tees.

Finally, we have the Long-sleeve Multistripe Boatneck Tee in red currant/lilac. This is a tencil/poly blend, so it's soft and light -- feels really nice, but a thinner fabric. I ordered a small for this one, as it said slim fit and I didn't want skin-tight, but I know these types of tees at JC run bigger than those perfect shirt. It was the right call. I like the burgundy and lilac together.

Have you tried these items out?

If you are a JC cardholder, are you ordering now, or waiting until the next rollout?

I'm leaving tomorrow for my long weekend away, and likely won't have time for posting, though I'll try, and at least will read comments and other blogs! :)  I'll definitely share a recap of the trip, with outfit pics and everything. :)

  1. Thanks for the reviews. I love the perfect fit tees and have been eying the henley. It's good to know that it's not too low cut.
I hadn't paid much attention to the striped boatneck, but it looks great on you. I may have to get this one too.

    1. Thanks mary! I think they're both very cute. The cleavage might change depending on your bust size, but it was very appropriate IMO.

  3. I love that Sloane dress so much. I'm back to the internet, no way could I give it up for a whole week, how great to have a handy hubby who can mend things!

    1. At least you got a little time off from it Tabs. I was mostly off it myself in Portland, and it was a nice change of pace.

The Sloane dress is just lovely. I would have worn it for the wedding, but it's not a packing-friendly piece really.

  4. I got the henley but mine does show a bit of cleavage! I got the navy/pink one and am planning to wear a cami underneath.

    1. Hi Lindsey! Ah, so maybe the cleavage depends on bust size? I'm not sure? It would be cute with a little white cami under it though for sure. :)

  5. I'm waiting for the next roll out to use my discount (and hoping to try some things in store to develop a good plan for it).

Thanks for your reviews and so glad to hear your computer is back in working order!

Also, I got the tippi in color block and the maple skirt and actually like them together. While the skirt is a bit different, i think it looks a bit like a heathered version of the sweater color. I just ran around the house and outside in different lights to make sure :) So either the skirt colors aren't consistent (totally possible!!!) or it is just a personal preference about what "goes." Just my two cents.

    1. You're good to hold out for the next rollout. I was going to, but wanted to be sure I was able to snag a few items before they went to final sale.

I actually don't mind the two burgundys together so much either, and think it can work. Good point that the colors might not be consistent! Thanks for chiming in.

  6. Thanks for pointing out the 25% off! My email had gone to spam...fixed that now. I had been waiting for a good discount before ordering the striped bateau sweater, goldsign jenny jean (never paid this much for jeans but I can always return them! searching for the perfect jeans still...) and the two-tone mary jane monas. Can't wait to see everything! Was going to order the medium biennial satchel but at the last minute changed my mind; I don't Love it, so will wait for the perfect bag...

    1. I'm glad you found yours! Hope you love all of your purchases. The mary jane monas looks sooo cute. I want to see them in person. Good call on not getting the bag if it's not love. There are so many cute ones out there, and it's best to hold out for one you love!

  7. Thanks for the reviews. Love how you styled the colorblock cardi over the stripe tee. Does the multistripe tee match the knit blazer?

    1. I'm soooo happy as well! Nice to not have to shell out the money for a new one. Especially since my Kindle just died on me and I have to get another one of those. :) The shoes did end up looking so fun with that jacket. Love those chance pairings.
