Thanks to Gigi for coining the word stripesick, as I find myself using it practically nonstop these days. Even when I was at Kohl's with DH, looking for a little extra Easter gift for the munchkin, my eye was caught by stripes in the Juniors section.
Now, I am welllll out of my junior years, and really don't make a habit of buying in the teen section. I'd like to just pretend it was in perhaps the Vera Wang section. But it wasn't, and oh well. It is by IZ Byer, which is kind of a terrible brand name, isn't it? Called the California Striped Dress, I was struck by the cute black and white striped skirt with jersey sleeveless top. The online picture isn't a great one, and the top looks quite see-through. I didn't think it was, unless you wore a bright white bra. Which I'm pretty sure you wouldn't. The skirt part reminded me of the adorable one from Loft here, on audreybella here.)
Obviously, one never pays full price at Kohls (this one is $58 full price), and true to form, it was on sale for $19.99 (not to mention the usual 20% coupon tucked in my wallet.) Well, at that price, I snatched up a medium and large (it's juniors, so I had no clue what would work) and sent DH to scout out some plush animals whilst I tried on yet more stripes. It's pricing out at $39.99 online right now (3% ebates and try SMS9873 for 20% off -- I'm not sure if that's card-only).
And I tell you what, it was super cute. Short (34" shoulder to hem), but honestly, not much difference from J.Crew's short-skirted offerings. The skirt is a stiffer cotton blend, which was what really drew me. The top is a thin-ish jersey type that's stretchy. I tried both sizes, and honestly didn't note much difference, except maybe a bit more to the hole in the armpit. The medium was the best fit between the two. I figured a small would be that much shorter and didn't bother. Pockets!!!
I could have done without the little ruffle in front, but as it's all black, it's no biggie. (It wouldn't be removeable btw.) The little pleating at the waist is really cute. But it is a wide elastic around the back, so I'd likely want a belt on there. It is cute on it's own, but I see it with a cardi or open denim shirt, and in cooler weather, you would wear it as a skirt, with a thicker sweater over it and some tights.
I could see wearing this on our Vegas trip and also on dates out with DH with a little cardi, so I told DH it was coming home. He approved of it, and most especially b/c I had a store credit for $18. So I checked out, and was actually handed $2 back. That is a purchase DH and I can get behind, stripesickness or no. :)
If you haven't seen it yet, Behind the Dressing Room Door just did a great post on a Dulcie Dress (Anthro) lookalike at Kohls as well, and it looks very pretty.
Now...can we also talk about the J.Crew "secret" sale this past weekend? What did you get? C'mon, I can't be the only one. :) I finally grabbed the Lillian dress to wear to a wedding next month. Love this dress! (review here) I also snagged about 6 sweaters for just over $80 (orig retail of something crazy like $650, lol!) I picked up a couple of surprise items and I'll share those with you in reviews when I get them. :)
