Whew, these strangely secret J.Crew promos have been crazy, but I have to say, I'm really thankful to be able to scoop up some of the prety shoes at a fraction of the full retail price. If you haven't heard, there's still 30% off sale going on, with code SHOPNOW through Friday. Also, little birdie told me to be on the lookout on Sunday (in retail stores).
Wanted to share some of my recent J.Crew shoe try-ons with you. One doesn't have IRL pics, b/c my phone crapped out on me, but I can give you some sizing info.
Patent Printed Valentina -- I reviewed these before, but wanted to note them again. If your size is available, they are definitely worth the $56 (with the 30% shopnow promo)! I wear an 8.5 out of J.Crew, and went with a 9 in these. You can see there's a bit of space in the back of the shoes, but when I'm walking, there's not that same amount. They didn't slip for me, and felt comfortable all day on the first wearing. That said, I may have been able to go with my true size in these. I've definitely heard from others they went with their true size successfully.
Drea Patent Peep-Toe -- These were reviewed here, but here's a better review for you. They were marked down to $80 pre-promo in store, so $56 with discount. Worth that. Many have said they went with their true size, and I think I'd have been able to do so, except that I have long toes (esp the second one -- does anyone else have this? weird). So I tried both sizes, and the 9 was best for me personally. They're really comfortable and I could see these being totally fine for all day wear. I love the neon peach (which isn't neon, just a bright melon color). Also, can we just pretend I have a pedicure?
The necklace is the Coral Bits Necklace, which was $14 with the promo. I don't know that I'd pay much more for it, but it's cute as a little accent with these shoes.
Leather Valentinas, brick red -- I squealed a little when I saw these on sale in my store, as they're on my stalking list (along with navy...which I wish would hit sale sometime soon). They were marked down to $130 pre-promo, so $109, which IMO is worth it b/c I want to wear them right away, and I'm not sure my size will be there when they hit sale online or a lower price. Leather lining and sole. For these, they had only a size 9, so I couldn't compare to an 8.5, but they were the right fit anyway. The leather may stretch a little bit, so some may be able to go with their true size. It's a true matte red, a classic color. This shoe is not going to look dated. I looove the Valentina style and the low heels. It's a very feminine and flattering shoe, and crazy comfortable to boot. I think at some point there might be some creasing, but since it's not such a super high heel, it might not be as bad.
Seville Wedge Espadrilles (solid) and Canvas and Satin (stripe)-- I've been wanting to give these a try in store, and am so glad I did. The solid colors fit big, so the size 8 was perfect on me. The striped pair fit small, so the 9 was the right fit (it felt the same as the 8 in the solid!). All of them are freaking adorable. And crazy comfortalbe too! I can't believe I'm finding so many comfy heels and might finally become a convert from all flats, all the time. Anyway, the modern red is ao great for a pop of color, but I have some shoes in this color already. The flax are a perfect neutral. They will make your legs look miles long. They are fabulous. Did I mention comfy? The platform makes them easily walkable, and there was no rubbing at all along the rim. The striped pair is absolutely adorable as well. I did find that the striped pair rubbed a bit on the outside under my ankle bone, but I believe they would likely stretch and be fine.
Valentina in calf hair -- I know, I said I wasn't going to get these. But I caved. Mainly b/c the patent ones are soley shades of brown and these have black. (omg, did I just justify it like that? That's craz-o.) I may end up selling my mary janes if I end up wearing these more. They're much more wearable b/c of the low heel, but probably look a little dressier. Anywho. They're pretty. And much more reasonable now than at the original retail.
Mona Suede Pumps -- They had one berry color left in an 8.5 at my store, marked down to $99, and I hoped they would fit me, but nope. I need to size up to a 9 in these. They're so pretty and fabulous, but a bit teeter-y and high. They would only be wedding/special occasion shoes for me.
Have you been drinking the ShoeCrewlade like me?
BTW, check out Factory as well -- they've dropped prices to rock botton on some cute pieces (and not final sale), like the Shrunken Fisherman Sweater ($11.55 with discount!) and the Perfect Shirt in Maxi Check ($10.15!).
p.s. don't forget ebates! It's 6% for J.Crew right now!

I love the calf hair Valentina and I think I will regret not buying them, especially int he fall/winter!
ReplyDeleteI was drinking Collection Crewlade last week, bought a couple of items which are arriving today... I'll keep you posted.
Really like all your shoe picks, I have the espadrille in modern red and I love them too!
I bet they will come out with another version in the fall/winter Dani! And they might even go lower in price, like the patent version. Ooh, excited to see what you picked from Collection crewlade. I also got something as well -- wonder if it's the same thing? :) Oh, and the espadrille is so wonderful. I saw that you had the modern red and knew they'd be great if you were loving them. Perhaps the stripe will come home if it reaches a super sale.
DeleteI bought the patent printed Valentina's based on your review and LOVE them! I went with my true size and they fit fine. I love JCrew shoes. Getting them on sale with a promo makes it amazing opportunity to get some classic, well made shoes at a good price. I may try the Drea and the easpadrilles, next!
ReplyDeleteLove all your shoe picks, esp. the red Valentinas.
ReplyDeleteI'm weeping over those Sevilles! My regular size 9 is too big, and the size 8 wayyy too tight. They're exactly what I've been looking for since last spring. I'm so let down. This is the first year JCrew's shoes & boots have not run tts for me.
The factory prices are just crazy! Thanks for the reviews! :)
I wondered about the Sevilles not working for everyone, size-wise. With a closed-toe shoe, I think you really need to have 1/2 sizes. I was really surprised at the sizing difference between solid and stripes too. Aren't the factory prices nuts?
DeleteI love shoes and I love your post! Based on your reviews and pics, I ordered the printed Valentinas. THey are beautiful and a steal at that price. I sized up, but they were too big on me (I have a narrow heel and should have known better and stuck with 8.5). My online PS is sending me the 8.5 and I can't wait to get them! Must get the Dreas!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I've been definitely hearing that others have been ok with their regular size in Valentinas, so maybe it's my long toes? lol. So glad your PS is getting you the 8.5! The Dreas are really fun. Not exactly an every day shoe, but they'll be coming with me on a couple trips and for some fun events. So great for a pop of color with a plain or dark dress.
DeleteSo happy with the red Valentinas! They all look great!
DeleteLove your shoe picks! I was staying strong by not going to the J. Crew website this morning but after I came here, I may have to. Thanks so much for the detailed reviews(as always). Found it very helpful in buying shoes online as the sizes are all over the place and I don't get to try them on in the stores.
ReplyDeleteThanks! You can stay strong! I think some of these shoes will pop back and maybe even go lower. I figured the sizing might help people, especially with their crazy sizing going on.
DeleteThanks for the reviews :) I've had my eye on the calf hair valentinas and pulled the trigger this morning...very excited about them after seeing your review! I also snagged a few factory suiting skirts for a whopping $13 each. I need a rest from the crewlade after all of the sales over this last week!!
Deletethese are gorgeous!! thank you for the sizing review - i got the valentina kitten heels in the patent leopard.. i may cave and get the calfhair ones too. xox
ReplyDeleteLet me know what you think when you get them! :)
Deletei posted them today on my blog and gave you a shoutout and linked your blog - thank you so much again for your sizing help!!!

Do tell! What is going to start Sunday in stores?
ReplyDeletecough *sale* cough
DeleteWould that be an additional percentage off sale items type sale?? Hmmm . . . I will definitely be making a trip to the local B&M on Sunday. Thanks for the heads up, M!!
DeleteI am finally getting the Valentinas, I am a bit nervous about the size but I am willing to take the risk!
ReplyDeleteI noticed in your Polyvore you featured the Tillary Tote in the red, white and blue. Did you get it? I love it on line but wanted an opinion before I order it at final sale.
Is there a way to access Factory items before Friday?
Thanks!
I hope the sizing works for you! I'm not sure if I've been any help. :) I did order the tote finally, and will be using it largely as a tote for trips -- both plane and road. It's quite large for me for every day I think, but I'm a SAHM. I know that Gigi did a review of it not too long ago with pics that might help you decide.
DeleteI've added a link to the Factory site above. :)
great shoe choices!
ReplyDeletei wanted the sardinia or seville wedges soooo badly... but the 8 was way too big and the 7 was just a hair too small. (sigh)
I really wish they'd have made those wedges in 1/2 sizes. I think this might be a problem for a lot of people. Maybe it's b/c I sort of waver between sizes that they worked for me?
DeleteI finally bit on the printed Valentinas; thanks for your review! I realized I really did want them after the OURTREAT code expired ;) Also got a few other things (am going to have to do a shopping diet for a while after this), including the factory madras popover. I loved the look but didn't *need* it, but it was down to $20 today with the code--can't miss it for that :)
ReplyDeleteAlso, a belated thanks for showing the pink & orange Talbots bow flats so much love this past winter. I hemmed & hawed about them forever, not sure if I would wear them often. I have been totally shocked at how versatile they are, and get compliments every time I wear them. So thanks!
Wendy
I'll be on the shopping diet with you. :) I think you'll really like the popover. Really cute colors in it.
DeleteSo glad those shoes worked for you too! I was really surprised at how versatile they were as well -- I wore them a ton this winter (thanks to nice weather) and get tons of compliments as well. They're one of my favorite pairs.
I scored a lot of Factory items this morning thanks to your tip about the price reductions. The ruffled gamine coat is a great price & I highly recommend - I have the retail version and love it.
ReplyDeleteCute espadrilles! Will have to try on next time I'm in the store. I have rotten feet (and also have the dreaded "long second toe") so I can't wear any of the fancy shoes but I sure wish I could. The neon peach is gorgeous and anything leopard is OK with me!
So glad you got some nice goodies at those low prices!
DeleteI LOVE those shoes--especially the Drea patent and leather Valentina! It looks like those styles are still full price online. Did you say they're on sale in store? If so, I may have to call around, since I don't live near a B&M.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your great reviews!
Hi Leah, Yes, they are on sale in stores (not online yet). Some SAs seem to be matching the SHOPNOW promo now, but I'm guessing they will for sure be doing so on Sunday. If you find them, maybe put them on hold until Sunday if you can? (Unless they let you apply the promo)
DeleteThanks so much for the help! I'll try the hold option. Do you have any of the Viv flats? I'm wondering if they're comfortable.
DeleteI do have the bow Viv flats and they are super comfortable, even with the pointy toe! Your foot pretty much ends before the point, so they don't feel squished. I went with a size 9 in those and they're perfect.
DeleteThanks so much for the heads up about the Factory items. I got some Perfect Shirts and other really cute stuff under $100 after tax and shipping! Thanks to ebates, I also go 6% back!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome! I couldn't believe some of the prices, esp the $10 perfect shirts! :)
DeleteIn my experience w the Valentinas, I sized up a half size in leather but took my true size in the patent version of the Valentina and the Drea.
ReplyDeleteThanks! It does seem like the patents are running a little bigger.
DeleteThe leopard Valentinas came yesterday and they fit perfectly. I bought them last week not knowing about the 'secret code'. I called J. Crew to ask for a price adjustment. The SA said, 'no'. I politely thanked her and called a few minutes later and spoke with someone else. Asked for a price adjustment and she said, 'yes!'. These shoes look so classy and chic. Love them already!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you love them AND that you got the PA!!
Delete1) So does the calf-hair run TTS?
ReplyDelete2) A (more random) question: What size is your Boardwalk Stripe Tee? I love the way you wore it like a sweatshirt over a gingham shirt, so I'm wondering about the size and amount of ease. I'm two inches taller than you, but otherwise the same-ish size. Big thanks!
First off, thanks for the heads up about factory items. I've scored some great deals.
ReplyDeleteSo I'm debating about the Factory patent tortoise ballet flats and I'm wondering if you know if they fit TTS and if they require a lot of breaking in. I'm a student so I do a lot of walking and there's nothing worse than wearing painful shoes all day. Thanks for any advice you have or if you know where I could find a review about them.
I have loved your blog and your style forever and am so glad I can comment now as a person rather than anon! I have been searching for a pair of coral shoes forever and love the ones in this post... ahhh so much is tempting me to break my shopping ban!
ReplyDeleteI love all of your shoe picks!!! I SO wish that I could wear heels!
ReplyDeleteWhoa! They are all gorgeous! I tried the espadrilles in the store today since I love my ankle wrap ones from previous years. I felt them to be a bit stiff, but I thought they were all adorable! Thanks for visiting/commenting on my blog today - and for some reason I noticed I hadn't updated my blog roll for quite some time, so I added you!! Hope thats OK!
ReplyDeleteCute shoes! Thanks for the reviews!
ReplyDeleteAs of yesterday I'm raising the roof w/my red Valentinaaaaasss, yeeeaaaahhhh boyeeeee! They are divine. Thinking about the printed ones...Thanks for all the great shoe pics. And great expl about your toe length. Srsly. Little details like that can really help ppl w/fit during final sale.
ReplyDeleteThank for the reviews - I just bought the leopard Valentinas! Hoping they fit - ordered at 7.5 (38 according to JC, though that normally puts me at a 7!).
