j.crew sale reviews: lilah dress and canvas tillary tote.

Hi everyone!

Well, and here we are again, with the Crew. I received a box of goodies yesterday from the secret 30% off sale, and was very happy with everything. I even took a chance on two items I hadn't tried/seen in store!  This week's 30% off sale (code: MUSTHAVE) will go through Friday and is online and in store.

We'll start with the one I knew I'd love, the Tillary Tote in canvas (actually 100% cotton) and leather. I was confident in this one, as I'd seen it in store, as well as Gigi's great review here. While I would not pay full price for a bag with light-colored canvas that I might get dirty, I feel it is well worth the current price with 30% off ($69.99). When I ordered it, in my head it was going to be a bit big, but when it arrived, I realized it had grown in my mind, but is actually very carry-able! Yay for that! So I can use it if I'm needing to bring a lot of child-realted things, as well as when I travel (which was my initial plan for it).  It was wrapped up very well, seemed brand new, and is really gorgeous in person. Perfect for when it warms up! Love the red and navy accents, the top zip, and the gold feet at the bottom, to protect that pretty red leather. It definitely fits on my shoulder easily and quite comfortably. Since it's canvas, it's also not crazy heavy, which is key for something I might lug on a plane.  So yes, I'd definitely recommend this one if it pops back this week!

Next, I'll share some pics of the Lilah Dress, which is a Collection piece, and was originally priced very high. With the discount, it comes down to a more reasonable price for a cotton eyelet dress. While I hadn't seen it or tried it on, I loved the detailing I could see, and I was quite certain it was the same silhouette as the green Madelene dress, which y'all know I have and adore.  So I based my sizing on that dress, getting a size 2. I went with my bust and waist measurements. That was the right size, as I think a 4 would have been just a little too roomy on top. The top is quite fitted, but not too tight.

The eyelet is lovely and well done, and I especially love the bottom edging.  It's fully lined, has a back zip and pockets.  The shape and length matches the Madelene, which could easily veer into the too-demure, too-virginal, too 1st communion, without a bit of styling help. I was in a bit of a hurry, so couldn't photograph a bunch of outfits, but maanged to grab my trusty leopard Valentinas, a skinny belt and a Jenna cardi. I think with heels, a sleek ponytail, some bright nail polish and a striking matte lip, this dress can work nicely for a dinner date or other special occasion.  Throw on a a cardi or jean jacket and some wedge sandals, and it can go to brunch or shopping.

What do you think of these two? Are you partaking in this week's MUSTHAVE promo?

p.s. Piperlime is having a sale ending today. You can get 20% off the site (some exceptions) with code TWENTY.  Additionally, you can get $10 off $50 with code BOXES.  Free shipping and returns. Awesome deals! I love the Jack Rogers navajo sandals in gold and silver and all the Kate Spade jewelry, especially the Mom Always Said idiom bracelet -- how cute is that to give your mom for Mother's Day or as a shower gift?

  1. Oh I wished I had pull the trigger on the tillary tote, I wanted it but I was afraid it was gonna be too big for me. It looks fabulous on you!

    1. I bet you can find it in some stores if you think you still want it. Maybe if you contacted a PS, they would track one down for you.

  2. I really like the white eyelet Lilah dress, so pretty! I think it looks great on you, love your styling ideas for it.
No more shopping for me though I do need to review a couple of skirts I bought on the 30% a couple of weeks ago, I'm going to do that today.

    1. Thanks Dani, it's really a pretty dress that I know I'll love.

Love the feather paisley skirt you purchased, as well as the blouse. I've been eyeing both!

Oh maybe someday I will score that blue Tillary on a popback. It's now the one that got away.

    1. Thanks, it's really cute for sure. But if it didn't grab you in store, then maybe you were meant to get a different bag? :)

  4. Lovely dress! It looks really cute on you.

I passed on the tote. I 'tried it on' in the store and couldn't get over how heavy it was (and I'm no weakling).

    1. Thanks Rose! I probably am just used to toting around enormous heavy bags, filled with maze books and Cars2 paraphenalia, so was ok with the weight of it.:)

  6. I am catching up on all of your reviews and you definitely got some great things! I wish I had gotten the tote- I thought it was going to be huge too but it looks perfect for me. Oh well. And the eyelet dress is gorgeous. That dress shape looks amazing on you. :)

    1. I know, in my head it was so huge, so it was a nice surprise to see the size of it IRL. I wonder if you could do a store search for it? I do love the shape of that dress. The Hillary dress seems to be the same too, but I wasn't as excited about that one.

  7. I got the canvas Tillary and love it even though I am very much a cross-body bag person and must very carefully consider anything which diverges from that model. I love the nautical-ness, the classicness, etc. I treated the leather right away and will spray the canvas with the equivalent of scotchguard. I got it at a first cut price and havent used it yet as it didn't make the cut for my recent vacation. However the future will see plenty of use for it!
