Hello everyone!
This week is spring break for my munchkin, and we're not on vacation anywhere, so I've been a little crazy with no preschool break to get things done. It just takes longer to run errands and such when you're carting along a 4-year old. Ah well.
In my spare time, I've been packing up for a long weekend away, where I'll be co-hosting a bridal shower for my niece. DH will be managing the little one most of the time, while I get to go galavanting around with my sisters-in-law to a home show, dinner out, and the shower fiesta itself. So fun! I thought I'd share my packing with you, since I happened to have my phone with me when it was all laid out.
The drive is a bit over five hours, which is a little rough IMO. It's just an hour too long, and we all get a bit antsy. I've found a way to read my Kindle while shutting out my peripheral vision (so I don't get motion sickness), and that helps. The little guy is usually pretty set with a DVD player. I need to be comfortable while driving that long, but I hate to show up at the house looking a hot mess, as I don't see these relatives that often. So I'll be wearing my black and ivory Maritime Dress with some black leggings and flats. Easy, comfortable, done.
When we get there, I'll have to change, as I always feel disgusting after a long car ride and road snacks (aka fast food). We ladies will be heading out to a home show. I need layers for this, as we'll be in and out of cars and houses, and walking outside a bit. I'm bringing a white shirt, with a stripey cardigan (J.Crew factory), and my Milly coat, paired with denim Minnies (J.Crew last year) and flats (similar here).
That night, we'll be going out for a nice dinner. The location is still up in the air, so I'll either be able to wear that same outfit, or will have to dress up a bit more. I like to at least have the option to change, b/c I'm just weird like that. So I'm taking along my Madewell Flutterfall Skirt, which I scored for a steal on clearance at my store and love. It's an airy champagne chiffon, in a barely midi-length. (similar, similar). I'll pair it with my Madewell Archive boots, my much-loved ivory Lady Lace Popover (factory version), and a khaki jacket (similar), belted. Bit of the boho action going on, but buttoned up enough for the in-laws. ;)
Saturday is the shower, and I'm excited to wear my green Madelene dress. It's still full price at J.Crew right now, but I managed to find one on eBay at a much discounted price. (See my review here. If you'd like to know the seller, send me an email and I'll give you the deets.) It's going to be chilly, so I'm pairing it with an ivory cardigan (mine's an old cashmere one, but the Jenna cardi is perfection with dresses) and pearls. I'll be wearing the lovely Valentina pumps, which are sooo comfortable, and are my new go-to heel. (I got mine with the extra 30% off, but they are pricing out lower in stores than online right now. My store had them at $99.)
And the last day...well, that's just all about comfort, as we'll have some breakfast and head back out on the road. So I'm wearing a sweatshirt and jeans.
Here's the Polyvore set of the whole packing scheme:
Do any of you get this neurotic when packing for a weekend away? It's ok, you can make fun of me. :)

Wonderful post! You are a great packer! My favorites: I may have to bite and get myself a black/white Maritime dress--I have the blue/white and I love it. Also, my little obsession is with the Madelene dress. I read your review on it when it came out and almost ALMOST (like only one little click away...)bought one on eBay but I was too scared to do it in the end. What made me pause is that I have absolutely no experience with J.Crew numerically sized dresses--all mine are casual xs/s sizes. I had no real point of reference for knowing whether it was TTS or not. :(
ReplyDeleteThanks! If you have and love the blue/white, you'll definitely love the black and white. :) It's just so easy. I know, I was very nervous about biting on the ebay dress, but felt pretty confident about sizing. If you're really unsure, then it might be a little chancey. You could talk with J.Crew though, and get the exact measurements of the dress, and then should be pretty good on picking your size. The chest measurement is going to be the key, as it's a fuller skirt.
DeleteI love all your outfits, I was going to say 'my favorite one is...' but I cannot choose :)
ReplyDeleteHave a great trip and fun time with your family!!
Haha, thanks! It should be a nice quick littel getaway!
DeleteThanks so much for the ideas as I am going to Charleston for a girls weekend and 10K race. I am the worst packer and your ideas inspired me. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that I could help! :) Sounds like a really fun weekend. Good luck in the race and have a great time!
DeleteI love what you have picked out! I get the same way, I am taking my dd to Disney world in April and I can't figure out what to take because it will be in the 80's and hot. I love your green bag, do you mind sharing who it is made by?
ReplyDeleteThanks! The green bag is Kate Spade, from a couple years ago I believe. Glad to hear there are others out there, planning their outfits. ;) 80's in Disney is hot, b/c you're walking around a lot out in the sun. I'd go for an airy cotton tank-style dress, or tank and skirt. I always feel hotter in shorts than skirts.
DeleteYou are making me want that green dress more and more! Great outfits.
ReplyDeleteI bet it will go on sale soon. I think you would look fabulous in it!
DeleteJust FYI Bloomingdales is having a 20% family and friends sale until this Sunday. Nordstroms is honoring this just as long as you mention it. Totally scored on a Tory Burch bag and matching shoes. Normally Torys dont go on sale like this so this was a great suprise.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the tip! Especially that Nordstrom is honoring it -- they are awesome. So rare to get a percent off of Tory stuff.
DeleteLove all your outfits, M! All the outings/events sound like a lot of fun, too! I hope you have a wonderful time! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks FFM! :)
DeleteOh a green bag, that's pushing the boat out for me, but I really want one now!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely organized! Sometimes I rock packing and often times I am not very good at it. It just depends on how much time I've devoted. That's usually the key. Have a great trip!
