j.crew reviews: lillian dress, fanfare jules dress, pink herringbone schoolboy

Hello everyone!

More J.Crew new arrivals reviews for you today. Whew, I have so many, that I need to spread it out a bit. Something to read while waiting for a promo and rewards cards, no? ;)

Lillian Dress in Watercolor Floral -- Wow, I so loved this pretty and ladylike dress. This is a 4 and it was a perfect fit for me. The print is lovely and not too much, the silhouette is darling, and it has pockets!! The style is perfect for so many occasions, as well as work. I immediately thought of an upcoming shower I am throwing for this dress. Perfect for a group of mixed ages, you know?  It's wishlisted for sure. See DaniBP's great review of the dress. A note that she experienced some fit issues. p.s. why is the print called watercolor floral on this dress, but gardenshade floral on the other pieces? Consistency people.

Jules Dress in Fanfare -- I didn't think I'd like this dress as much as I did! I personally love the mod Jules shape and the fan print is fun, although maybe overwhelming on some (reminds me a bit of Boden actually). The print works with the shape of the dress methinks. Love those little pockets. It's a little shorter than I'd like, but it really fits the look and is balanced out by the long sleeves.

Schoolboy Blazer in Herringbone, neon pink -- Hello, pink goodness. This is a 4 and it fits ok, but I should have tried on a 6. It's more fitted in the shoulders, so keep that in mind. It's a really fabulous, bright pink (but don't worry, it's not neon for realz). As for the fabric, it has a linen-y feel to it (but isn't), and some metallic threading that I didn't find noticeable at all, in this color. I have the neutral one from last year, and the metallic was more noticeable. Others have reported that it's way too wrinkly for them, but mine was perfectly steamed, so I guess I missed that issue. That said, I don't mind the wrinkling, as it has a linen feel (which always wrinkles), and my lifestyle is much more relaxed. The undercollar is that felt again, and would have been so much cuter in a silk print. I'm not willing to pay full price for a rayon/nylon blend, now way, but it's wishlisted for sale.

Whatcha think?  If you're trying anything out, don't forget to go through ebates (it's 2%, but better than nothing!)  There was a sale update this morning, just in case you were looking for anything to pop back.  Also, there have been some new arrivals to Factory.

  1. Hi M, Thanks for the mention! The dress is beautiful on you and it sounds like you have the perfect event for it as well.
The fanfare dress is Boden-esque, you're right. And I'm thinking that jacket will go to sale pretty quickly. The pink is great on you.
    Thanks for the reviews!

  2. I thought the same thing about the fanfare print, and actually I think maybe J Crew is consciously taking their prints and silhouettes in a Boden-like direction. The floral dress is perfect for a shower.

  7. Dani -- It really is perfect for a shower event, although I do have other frocks that will do just as well. Maybe at a great sale price, but we'll see. Trying to stick to my plan, and it seems to already be tricky. ;) Agree that the jacket will go to sale well before spring arrives, so hopefully I can snag it at a reasonable price.

Sue -- I wonder if they are noticing that Boden has been doing some things reminiscent of old-school JC and trying to get back the defectors? Who knows. :)

    rynetta -- My pleasure! :)

    Jennifer -- I agree, it's gorgeous.

WMM -- Oops, I forgot to mention that was actually a 4. The rayon-ness of it made it drape nicely, and I thought perhaps gave it a bit more length than a 2.

thatdamngreendress -- It's really pretty on the dress. I didn't love it as much on the skirt for some reason.
