Happy New Year!

I will seek elegance rather than luxury, refinement rather than fashion. I will seek to be worthy more than respectable, wealthy and not rich. I will study hard, think quietly, talk gently, and act frankly. I will listen to stars and birds, babes and sages, with an open heart. I will bear all things cheerfully, do all things bravely await occasions and hurry never. In a word I will let the spiritual, unbidden and unconscious grow up through the common.

Popping in!

Hi everyone,

First, I just want to say thank you so much for all of the kind words, thoughts and prayers sent my way. They were very touching. It's been a hard week, as my husband's mom passed away. she lived a long, wonderful, full life, and it was not wholly unexpected, but that doesn't take away the sadness and loss felt by those left behind. We have finally arrived home, after a week and a half on the road, which has been a bit exhausting in itself (especially for our 3-year-old, poor guy). However,  I will be heading back up to my family on Monday for my other funeral for my cousin, who has been taken from us much, much too young, from a tragic accident.

Not surprisingly, I'm not quite able to bring myself to blog about clothes just yet, but soon I will be back. I've still been peeking in on all the other blogs, just for a bit of levity and normalcy. :)

Thanks again for your kind thoughts!

Bit of a break.

Hi everyone,
Thank you all for the lovely Christmas wishes! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday.
Sadly, we have just had two deaths on the family, so I'll be traveling and a bit out of touch for the next week.

madewell 30% off and free shipping promo.

Hello everyone!

Today is the last day for the 30% off SNOWMAN promo at J.Crew (free shipping on $100+) and today Madewell is offering 30% off the website (not in stores) with free shipping (no min, no code needed)!  Both are offering 4% cashback on ebates.

At Madewell, I have and love:

The Archive Boot -- Y'all have seen these non-stop from me since I got them. Original review here. I love the color and the fit on my chicken legs is great with both skirts and skinnies. They still look brand new. Oh, and I sprayed them with a water-resistant spray thingy (from Nordstrom?) and they have been doing great if I'm caught in some sprinkles.

High-riser Jeans in Eclipse Wash -- I happened upon these in the store a while back, and they were on promo for $60 (quite a discount from FP!). I was a little skeptical, but oh how I love them. I wish I had bought about 3 pairs, that's how often I wear them. True, they are high-waisted, so there's no tucking in these babies or they would be super mom jeans, but they hold in that food baby/mommy jiggle like nobody's business. ;)  They are soft and stretchy and I love them.  I went with a size 28 and they do stretch out a little bit, but not too badly. The 32" inseam works great for me (5'5") -- I can pair with flats or boots (or heels if I ever was so inclined).

I have also seen IRL and like:

Flutterfall Skirt -- I tried this on in store and really loved it. Very feminine and still felt modern. The size small worked for me.

Lowlands Boot -- Very limited sizes left, but I love this boot. Saw it in store and the cordovan color is gorgeous!

J.Crew had a little update this morning, but nothing major that caught my eye. Are you totally shopped out or will you be trying out Madewell with this promo? Anything from la Crew?

Have a great day! I'm heading out tomorrow for my parents' and traveling for the next week, so will likely be posting a bit sporadically. I'll be around though! :)

prada for pennies.

Hello everyone!

Done with my Christmas shopping (wrapped too!), I had a bit of time to pop into Nordstrom Rack the other day. While I feel pretty shopped out with all the crazy promos, it still felt lovely to be in a shop and not feel the pressure of gift-finding. I was there when it opened, which is always the best time to find the goodies, no?  I headed straight for the shoe section, as they had just announced they were completing a ton of clearance markdowns. Hey, you never know if you'll strike gold, right?

Right off the bat, I saw a gorgeous Tory Burch boot, in a lovely cognac color, for about half price. They were the same shade as my Madewell boots, so of course they were a pass. Some lucky lady will be sporting them shortly though, I'm guessing!

Next, I spotted a pair of Coach wedge sandals in a pretty coral, but they were a bit more pink than the tangerine I foresee sporting this spring, so I put them back on the shelf.

Then I found yet another Tory Burch shoes (rare!). This time black pumps, with small (pointy) heels. I was tempted, finding them very comfortable, but still a bit pricier than I'd want to pay. Then I thought of my black J.Crew Juliets at home and knew I was squared away with a comfortable pair of black shoes.

I also saw about five pairs of shoes from brands like Seychelles, Cole Haan and Donald Pliner marked $10! Not a fit for me though.

Hmm, striking out...until...when what to my wondering eye should appear...but a lovely Prada buckle pump in a perfectly warm nude color, with a fun wooden buckle, and signature square heel (short and practical for the heel-hater in me).  I remembered seeing them once before and thinking they were lovely and comfortable and classic. A shoe I'd be able to wear into my oldies years. As I'm not yet in those years, I thought to myself that I'd have to be sure to pair them with something more trend-ish (e.g. skinny jeans).

They had been marked at $119 at that time (retail marked $595), and I didn't feel like paying that for something that might not be worn all the time. But today, they had been marked for clearance, down to $39.99!  Well, as you can imagine, I raced for the matching shoe, confirmed they were both in perfect condition, then off to the register I went.  It was even sweeter when I used a Mastercard giftcard from a rewards program and only paid $15 out of pocket. :)

Here are my 93% off shoes:

Merry Christmas to me! ;)

piperlime "lime" tag sale.

Hello everyone!

Sorry about the crazy code confusion yesterday, but thanks to kittycrafter, I've posted a code that works for L.L. Bean Signature.

Today I noticed that Piperlime started their "Lime" tag sale on various items. You get free ship/returns always, and if you order by 12/21, it will still be delivered by 12/13. Don't forget ebates, which is only 2%, but every little bit counts. :)

Some of my favorites:

Nine West Turn the Corner Medium

Fossil Carson -- Loving so many of Fossil's bags lately.

Fossil Emory Crossbody Flap -- So cute!!

Adidas Cambridge

Hazel Tiered Lace Tunic Top

La Canadienne Paulina -- Love their waterproof boots. I have a pair that look new, even though they are about 5 years old. They're pricey, but with a sale, they're a bit more reasonalble. They are worth every penny for the quality and the fact that you can wear them in any weather.

La Canadienne Bette

Hunter Dallin Tall

Sperry Topsider Albatross

Have a wonderful Sunday!

L.L. Bean Signature 15% off.

Hello everyone!

I know that we're all getting used to the promos shouting 30-50% off, so 15% doesn't seem all that thrilling. However, L.L. Bean rarely does more than 10% off, and I've barely seen a percent discount sale at Signature. So, I thought I'll do a quick PSA in case you were eyeing anything there. Use code DTK4422. (thanks kitty crafter!) (Also, the code MERRY nets you 10% off.) You will get a $10 giftcard when you spend $50 and free shipping, no minimum.  Sweaters are currently 30% off and the 15% off stacks with it. Ebates is 2% cash back.

I've only tried one blouse from them, and love it, but there are a number of cute items there. Some have too much of a 70's vibe for me though. You can see two pieces looking fabulous on DaniBP here and here.

My favorites:

Silk Habutai Skirt -- On sale for $60, this is a great price with the additional discount.

Beacon Poplin Skirt -- Love this print!

Cotton/Silk Flannel Bias Dress -- I keep going back to this dress in the antique white colorway. Would love to try this on. I'd use a different belt and wear with boots.

Shearling-lined Bean Boot -- Love!! Warm and cozy, perfect for cold, wet winters. Pricey, but I'm guessing these will last ages.

Have you tried the Signature line?  How's your holiday shopping going? I'm off for one last-minute gift in few minutes...

Have a great day!

what I'm packing for the holidays.

Hello everyone!

As I was sitting amidst clothes tossed willy-nilly about my closet, figuring out what to wear, I thought, argh, there must be a better way!  There really isn't though.

I start by pulling up some pre-planned outfit sets on Polyvore on my iPad while in the closet. Then I start trying things on. It seems a bit OCD to do this, but I have been burned before. Nothing worse than being far from home, with an outfit that is uncomfortable, doesn't work IRL (as opposed to in my head/on Polyvore), or is missing something (a belt, a button, an extra inch in the waist).  Then I lay about all my piles of outfits. I pull the jewelry, the socks, the undergarments -- everything. If I don't, something key will be missing (a slip, one earring, navy tights instead of black). For Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, I even plan two different outfits. Ok, so that's a little over the top, and takes up space, but it's peace of mind for me. I want to be comfortable and also look cute, and that's just how it is.  So, this is what seems to work for me.  Crazy? Er, probably.

Here are some pictures of my piles:

Here are my Christmas outfit options:

Christmas Eve option 1 -- J.Crew dazzling deer tee (2010), Anthropologie blazer (2010), J.Crew Flair Skirt in Henna (more brown than the online color appears), J.Crew mary janes (year?). I'm leaning toward this one, b/c it's more fun.

CE Option 2 -- J.Crew Winsome Dress (pops back now and again, love!), J.Crew black V-neck Jenna Cardigan, black tights, J.Crew Juliet heels.

Christmas Day Option 1 -- J.Crew Factory blackwatch plaid pants, J.Crew green Talitha blouse, J.Crew navy cashmere cardigan, J.Crew vintage booties in dark green. I'll likely wear this b/c it's easier to wear pants at the in-laws' house for this day.

CD Option 2 -- (this is shown at the top of my Polyvore below) Land's End red cashmere turtleneck sweater, J.Crew vintage holiday plaid skirt, black flat boots.

Here is my Polyvore of the packing plan:
Packing Plan

If you travel during the holidays, do you do something similar? I'm probably the lone wack-o, but that's ok.  Do you plan it out or just toss everything in and hope for the best?

Also, what are you wearing for your holidays? I love to hear these!

p.s. If you haven't seen already, J.Crew's promo today is now 30% off of everything, free ship, no min. Best one yet! (esp with no final sale)  I also saw that they added the new Palm Springs Beaded Necklace to the site. It's really cute IRL and reminds me of some old school jewelry. Could be used now for a pop of color, but will be great in the spring, especially as you're going to be seeing that tangerine color a lot methinks. Ebates is 4% today.

p.p.s  Thanks to a PSA tip from Egyptomaniac, I wanted to mention that Land's End AND Land's End Canvas are offering 40% off sitewide, free shipping with no min. Such a great promo, especially b/c Canvas rarely has sales that big. Love that cashmere tee she posted! Don't forget ebates -- 2% for Canvas, 6% for LE.

j.crew jingle promo with new additions.

Hello everyone!

Sticking my head out of the packing/holiday prep sand, to mention that J.Crew's JINGLE promo continues, with up to 30% off, but today with free shipping to boot.  Don't forget ebates -- it's 4%.

Also, there have been some price drops on lovely favorite items of mine such as:

Double-serge Hacking Jacket (acorn and pine to $179.00)

Stadium-cloth Elements Coat down to $199 in all colors. This coat is uber-warm and much-loved by JCAs. If you get the 30% off, I think this is a really great sale price, especially with the option to still return if need be.

Macalister Shearling Wedge in nut down to $199.  I have these in the non-shearling and can attest to their comfort. I have done all-day errand running, not to mention after-child running, and was completely comfortable. This is coming from a heel hater.

The Nora Calf-hair flats are down to $179.99 (missed my size, rats!), as well as the lovely Valentina Printed Patent Pumps (in light walnut black to $179.99), which are not only cute, but the patent is easy-care, and the heel is quite manageable.

The Vintage Thermal Tee has dropped to $19.99 before promo. Love this! It's been a bit short on tall ladies, but on me it's a great length (5'5").  So cozy and easy.

Also, I just wanted to mention the Pin-tuck Lace Shell, which I recently saw in store, and are adorable IRL, especially in the lavendar and maize colors, where you can really see the detail. At $20 minus whatever discount you rack up, they are cute for layering to to put away for the spring/summer. I plan to wear the maize with my Gallerista Skirt!

Ok now, have you succumbed to this promo? Or can we stick a fork in you?

Back to coffee to fuel me up. Yesterday I managed to determine my holiday outfits. Now it's time to get serious about the rest of the to-do list!

Have a wonderful day!

holiday prep and ignoring the promos.

I have soooo much to do. I'm way behind, especially after that nasty virus last week, which laid the whole family up again. Wrap presents (at least I'm done buying!), manage DS's class party, make cookies, do some grocery shopping, do 100 loads of laundry, plan packing out for holiday travel.

Plan packing, you ask? One would think it isn't so very hard. But we will be traveling to my parents for several days before Christmas, and on Christmas Day, we will be heading out at the break of dawn to drive 7 hours my in-law's. There will be a pit-stop at our house, where we will change out suitcases.  So, I have to pack for two seperate visits, which is trickier than you'd think. Especially considering there are two days of "dress up." Thank goodness for Polyvore to plan out my own outfits though, right?

Also, the promos are taking over my email world right now. I can't even keep up. Anthro's still got the 30% off sale going, and even did some new cuts this morning. J.Crew started a new JINGLE promo today, with up to 30% off. LOFT has 50% off everything online. Land's End has 30% off on $50+.  I'm sure there are more, but I'm averting my eyes, chanting "Look away, look away! You need nothing!"

So while I had planned to do some outfit of the day photos for you, I'm begging off, trying to get all my other business at least started. :)

Are your holidays hectic? Do you stay at home or travel? Do you have as hard a time as me with packing?

Hope you're having a great week!

oh the promo madness...

I'm guessing a lot of you are with me with the promo overload. I hate to complain, because who doesn't love to see lots of great sales?  But still, it can be a little overwhelming. I've mostly stepped away from buying, as my budget right now is focusd on Christmas gifts, but I did manage to find a one great deal I just couldn't pass up.  Some promo notes:

J.Crew is ending their 25% off/free ship on $150+ tonight. ETA: Monday they are still offering 25% off.  Not sure what they'll do next, but likely the next time they do a promo (usually it's 30% off sale items), it switches back to the dreaded Final Sale.  So if there's anything you're wanting to check out that you can only find online, I recommend doing it while you are able to return it if it doesn't work.   Don't forget ebates. J.Crew is 4% 8% cash back right now.  There isn't anything I feel the need to get right now, so I'm abstaining.

Boden just sent me a "secret" preview of their big sale, with many items knocked way down. There are a number of great summer items still/back in stock that I love, like the Bow Shift (below, and see it on Egyptomaniac and Dina) down to $38 and the Pool Party Tunic down to $23. For my son, I adore their camo Lined Skate Pants, which are down to $31. Oh, and I just saw the cute Tassel Sandals, down to $29 in pretty bright colors. I'm a big fan of picking up cute spring/summer items at these rock bottom prices to put away for warmer weather. So fun to pull them out! You do have to pay shipping, but it's not astronomical. Boden is also down with the ebates thing, albeit only at 2.5%. Better than nothing, right?

Finally, you've likely heard that Anthropologie today started their 30% off sale promo, which is very fun, especially knowing that their Tag Sale is still around the corner. Online the items flew off the "shelves" fast and furious in the early morning hours (I slept in), but I was able to pop into my local store early this morning, and they had quite a nice big selection. It seemed like they knocked down a lot of prices as well. I couldn't resist taking home a pair of the soft red Muted Shades Penny Loafers for a grand total of $14!  They are so very comfortable and adorable. If you can find a pair, I highly recommend them!

Talbots is also continuing their 40% off on everything sale, with free shipping, no minimum.

Have you been partaking in all these promos? Madness, I tell you! ;)
