dressing up your tees.

Fabulous reader Tiffany had a request recently, for some ideas on how to dress up all the tees that many of us have in our wardrobes This is a perfect topic for me, as I have -- ahem -- quite a collection of tees in my closet. They are almost soley J.Crew, including even some Crewcuts tees (size 14 works). So, here are some of the many ways I personally wear my tees, dressed up a bit. I've included several IRL pics, as well as some Polyvore-styled sets:

With skirts:

dahlia crush

la ville village & watercolor floral

Under a blazer (usually with jeans, so not super dressed up, but polished):

Over a shirt:

I do a lot of layering in the colder months (sorry, I have winter stuff stored away, so no IRL for now):

Hope this gave you some tee inspiration! Have a wonderful day!

  1. One of my favorite looks is definitely jeans, a tee, and a blazer. It's stylish and classic, but you're still rockin' jeans and a tee, if you know what I mean.

  3. Great post! I too have tons of graphic tees, but I always felt that I couldn't dress them up like all the rest of the lovely bloggers :( I think this is enough inspiration for me to make it work!

  4. Oh my, girl, do you ever ROCK! AWESOME POST! I thought I'd already bookmarked practically every PV set you've ever made, but gee whiz I'd missed a few gems!! :-) Are you an XS in JC tees? I'm a S in most cases so I'd always figured Crewcuts would be too small in the shoulders on me -- ya think?

Hey, in your perusals at JC recently did you happen to see and/or buy the in-store-only "Don't Sink the Ship" graphic tee? Dark grey & neon orange graphic of an ocean liner on an athletic gray background? I bought this tee on super-cheap clearance a couple of weeks ago because I thought it would be cute (IT IS) with my 2009 JC neon orange skinny belt & white jeans or shorts. And I could have sworn I'd seen it mentioned and pictured in blogland, too, because when I saw it in the store I thought "oh, there's THAT tee" but now I can't find the blog mention anywhere at all (naturally). Just thought you might be a resource here. :-)

  5. Jane Squared -- That's definitely a go-to look for me. Classic, but so easy to keep it modern with different tees.

    Milljcrew -- Thanks! :)

Momoberry -- Thanks, and you totally could rock the dressed-up tee look!

JCAUNCMom -- Aw, thanks! :) I did see that tee and I didn't get it b/c I was on such a mission. But I'm sort of regretting not getting it, b/c it's so cute! Esp with that pop of orange! I don't remember seeing it on a blogger though. If I happen across it, I'll let you know though!

  7. I'm generally not a graphic tee kind of person, but seeing you layer them under cardigans and blazers makes them more appealing to me. You may have made a convert!

  9. Oh,wow, awesome. I was so hoping you'd do this!!!! Thank you! I live in sunny (hot, humid) SW Florida where it's totally casual year-round, and you've inspired me with some very clever outfits that are fun, casual, but still very stylish. You'd be surprised how many shorts and sundresses you'll see at "business casual" events down here! Anyway, I know I will refer to this post often. Thanks again! ( I finally created a blogger identity :-))

  10. This is a great post! I love pairing tees with more tailored skirts...it's so unexpected! People barely even realize you're wearing a tee.

  11. Love this post! I'm such a fan of a tee with a pretty pencil skirt, and you do it so well! I think the dressed down pencil skirt/tee/cardi is my very favortie combo to wear to work.
