j.crew no. 2 pencil skirt in citron review.

I know J.Crew's No. 2 Pencil Skirt in citron has been a spring rollout pick for many of you, and it was my number one (No.2? Hardee-har-har) pick as well. I ordered it over the phone (it wasn't adding to the cart for a while online), and used rewards $ for it.

As you might have seen/heard, it's definitely not a lemony yellow, as it seems to show on most computers. Annoying, but I guess I knew it wouldn't be quite a lemon yellow with the citron name. Their citron in the past has been more neon-y, heading towards lime. This one is as well. I personally love the color, and think it's still very bright and cheery and spring/summer-like. (Though I would have also loved a more lemony color) Easily paired with navy, love it with pink, goes with other citron/olive shades from past JC seasons (like the Lana top below). Will also be great in the fall paired with olives. Hooray, love it! So definitely a keeper for me!

The weight is nice, as the double-serge skirts have been in the past. It will tend toward wrinkling a bit, as you can even see in these pics, and I don't mind that too much. If you're sitting at a computer.desk all day, that might be annoying for you.

I ordered a 4, b/c I didn't want it to be skin tight. I feel like it fits nicely, but think I will still try on the 2, now that it's in stores. At $98, it should fit very perfectly, no? I think b/c of the color, which won't be for everyone, this will perhaps hit sale. It also sounds like several people picked up a similar color at the factory store last year.

Here are some pictures:

You can also see it on the lovely Jenni in her review here.

Here is a link to my Polyvore collection  for this skirt. for my styling ideas.
What do you think? Will this be a purchase for you? Wait for sale?

  4. Hooray! LOVE this skirt. I saw it briefly in a b&m last weekend but didn't get a chance to try it on. I think it will be a good summer version of the ochre double-serge pencil skirt. Of course I will be needing to get it :) Thanks for the pics and review!

  5. I like the skirt, but was disappointed with how it felt. I saw a similar version last year in the Factory stores and this retail skirt was just one notch better than the factory skirt. With that said, it felt kinda cheap. Definitely a sale purchase for me, maybe on the 2nd mark down. I wasn't too impressed with the quality of most other items from the new roll-out either...makes me sad :(

  8. Wow! Pretty! Definately not a yellow, but the color still really looks good on you.The color reminds me of the Gilded jacquard pencil skirt from last summer, was it? Looking forward to it going on sale!

  11. Andrea -- Thanks! It's a lovely skirt.

rynetta -- Hooray! Let me know how you like it when you receive it!

Kristin -- Thanks! I definitely felt like that one combo stood out as well.

AppGal -- Definitely think you'll be needing this one. Even though it's a cuckoo color, totally agree it can be used like the ochre skirt. I loved it more and more as I tried on different combos.

Momoberry -- So interesting, I really like how the skirt felt and was constructed. I agree though that I wasn't thrilled with a number of other things in the rollout, quality-wise, upon seeing them in person.

tiny dancer -- You're welcome! It's a really cool color IMO. The color might not work with some complexions close to the face, so it's a nice way to get that color in your wardrobe.

egyptomaniac -- Oh right! It does remind me of that skirt. I have it, so I'll have to compare it and see.

Slastena -- Thanks! It's going to be a fun skirt. :)

  17. ginastorm -- Thanks and I totally felt so happy wearing it. I was skipping around in it, and kept finding more and more "matches" until DH had to put a stop to the madness.

triciathomas -- Thanks, I think you'd look fabulous in this color. Definitely give it a whirl and let me know what you think. I just grabbed the easiest/within-reach pieces to match up, and they worked out well. There are so many more combinations... ;)

Smooch -- lol, let me know what you think when you see it in person. I do love that slight sheen and the color. And the weight. And the length. I could go on...

  18. I love this skirt and all your Polyvore sets. I've been thinking that I may buy this with my rewards. I am disapointed that it's not the exact color that it shows online. I really want that pale lemon yellow. Sigh..

  21. addicted -- I know, I was a little disappointed in it not bing the true lemon color, but I do love this color as well, so thank goodness for that.

rynetta -- Oh yay!! Isn't it lovely? So many pairings with it too. That top is the Lana top, that I sometimes see on ebay, or maybe a JCA has one. :)

gigi -- Thanks! It's been fun trying some different combos I wouldn't have tried a few years ago.

Tammy -- Thanks! It's nice to have that little cardi for cool spring weather. :)
