So I asked my friend the other day if it was too early to pull out my reindeer tee. Her response: "20 years too early." Hm. Well, I get that she was picturing one of those fuddy-duddy shirts or ugly country holiday sweaters moms of olde used to wear. For a minute, I was unsure of myself and my adoration for the fun and glittery tees that sparkle during the holiday season these past few years.
So I went to my True Winter storage bin, and pulled out my two beloved J.Crew snowflake tees (2010 retail here, factory here and here), my antler tee from last year, and two tees I bought from Land's End for about $5 this summer (polar bear and penguin). Whew! Still love! Not fuddy-duddy! Cute!
I missed out on last year's reindeer tee (this year's here, factory elk here), but Target has a cute version out now for $15 FP (here - waay cuter IRL -- you know how craptastic Target's photography/styling is), as well as a similar snowflake tee (my store was sold out), and a white-on-white Peace, Joy, Cheer tee (which I bought on the spot).
So in honor of my love for these tees, I give you some cute styling Polyvores (and you'll soon see some in OOTD):
Do you have any of the holiday tees and share in my love? Or are you in the hater camp? :)
p.s. Piperlime has 25% off boots today with TAKE25!

i am just starting to collect.
ReplyDeletei have last years snowflake tee and love it dearly!
I am loving the new Target tees, and the price can't be beat! On my way to hunt for them now........
ReplyDeleteI'm not a big holiday shirt fan...the snowflake one isn't too bad but that's as far as I would go. Just my opinion. That being said, I do like the sets you put together--al super classy looking!
ReplyDeleteI have the snowflake and reindeer tee and now want the "peace, joy, love" from Target. You are so great at putting things together...I was looking through your polyvores and I can honestly say that you should be a stylist! I love, love, love your blog and look forward to reading it every morning. Thanks so much for taking the time to do it. As a mother myself, I'm not sure how you find the time but I'm definitely glad that you do! Thanks again!
ReplyDeleteI'm a "YES"...I think they're fun and festive without being frumpy or matronly. (which I believe is what your friend had envisioned) I have the J Crew retail snowflake and the Target reindeer tee...can't wait to wear them both.
ReplyDeleteJenni,
ReplyDeleteI agree. I no longer wear these types of holiday tees. I have watched too many installments of What Not to Wear and segments on fashion on The Today Show!
ina -- Love that snowflake tee!
ReplyDeleteifky12 -- They are really cute in person, definitely recommend.
Jenni -- It's ok, they're definitely not everyone's taste. :)
Lisa_Groves -- Thank you so much, you totally made my day!! :) I try to sneak in blog time early morning or at night before bed. And sometimes during his nap (like now). It's really fun for me, and I'm glad you enjoy it. Love that Target tee, especially for only $15!
ReplyDeleteMy4Boys -- I knew you'd be a fellow holiday-tee-lover! ;) Yep, she was definitely envisioning frumpy and matronly. Ha, I'll prove her wrong and will wear one next time I see her! hee hee.
ReplyDeleteAnon -- lol! You're right, Stacy & Clinton would probaby give them the thumbs-down, but I think it's all in the styling. That said, they're definitely not for everyone! Thanks for stopping by. :)
ReplyDeleteI check your blog first thing in the morning too. Gives me inspiration - even when I end up wearing work out pants all day. I like the holiday tees. Now, Quaker Factory on QVC? I would stay away from that. Guess it's wrong that I know what Quaker Factory is :) THanks for your blog.
ReplyDeleteOT, but wondering if you are going to do some polyvores for holiday parties?
ReplyDeleteLizzy T -- Thanks so much! LOL at the Quaker Factory! Totally reminds me of my aunt. I *just* did some holiday party polyvores, and will post them on the blog with some Polyvore to Real Life pics this weekend!
ReplyDeleteYay! Can't wait to see them. We just moved to the suburbs from Chicago and my hubby and I are to dinner in the city next weekend. Can't wait to be back and need some good ideas for outfits!
ReplyDeleteM-the holiday t is not my style but I love the way your creative mind puts these outfits together. Even though I wouldn't wear the t, I get ideas from your outfits! Plus, I run so cold that I would absolutely FREEZE in a short sleeve t, unless I had a couple layers over it, and then no one would see the cute snowflake or whatever! I'm sticking to turtlenecks for the next few months...
ReplyDeleteLOL at the Quacker Factory comment. I do remember seeing that line a few years ago. I used to wear all that kind of stuff teaching in the 90's. I still have a few pieces that I wear just for fun/to be silly in during the season. My little girl loves seeing them on me. I only wear them around the house and never out in public unless I have a jacket on:)
ReplyDeleteLizzy T -- Congrats on your new house! Can I ask which burb you're in? How are you liking it? DH and I are ready for a night in the city too!
ReplyDeleteAngela -- Thanks! I'm always hot, lol, so I'm good in a tee under a sweater usually. But in the dead of winter I do layer a long tee and t-neck under tees.
Genny -- Kids do love a fun tee, that's true. My son saw my snowflake tee and keeps asking me to wear it.
We just moved from Lincoln Park to Deerfield. It's been a transition, but my kids like it and my husband's commute is much better!
